    Great non-hunting yellow lab

This book was borrowed to me when I got my first dog. Even though I didn't hunt with her, she was an awesome dog. I liked the week by week progression. She loved to swim, was super energetic, great with kids, and listened to commands well. Unfortunately, her curiosity got the best of her. She went where she should have known not to go. She got hit by a car and we miss her dearly. She was almost 3 years old. I will definetely get this book for myself for my next dog, which will be soon. I might decide to go with Family Dog since I don't hunt.

    Great Book

Male Chocolate Lab at 17 Weeks this year (2006), first time out spent 1/2 hour in the field and three birds retrieved to hand. Some may disagree but I call this success.

Perfect for any dog in need of training

This book brought my husband from a NO DOGS IN THE HOUSE rule to letting our chocolate lab Candy live IN THE HOUSE. She has the perfect mannerism and he started training her when she was about 6 weeks old. This is not a hard reading book and implementing the direction of this book into every day life with an in house dog worked out great for us. I would advise anyone who has a dog to read this. I have not read any other dog books but highly recommend this one.

For anyone who loves time in the field with their favorite mut

I don't read many books, so I really can't compare this to others. What I can tell you is that my first lab (now 2 years) and I were very green. I bought this book when she was 8 weeks and by the time her first hunting season rolled around I was able to see just how advanced she was over the other hunter's dogs. In the last two years I've only seen one other dog that could perform as well and obeyed anywhere close, and I've also had numorous other hunters tell me that I should enter her in field tests. I don't really know how to train a dog, especially a hunting dog, but this book gave me an obedient lab with a strong hunting drive that I can be best friends with for a long time. --Josh
