    I Also Recommend:

Stay Focused! An inspirational read for everyone!

Growing up with severe autism, Jason McElwain went through more than difficult times. He struggled to fit in and find his place in this world but he never gave up or lost faith. Through hard work, focus, and his love of basketball he was able to prove to his school and the world that nothing was slowing him down; not even autism. This book was one of the best books I have ever read. The book was written in such a way that is was nearly impossible to not get hooked. It was organized very uniquely; he incorporates the game that changed his life with his life experiences. It was not a literary masterpiece or anything, but it was pure and genuine. Jason, with a little help, was able to write a book with incredible detail and insight into his life. He was able to tell of his struggles while staying more positive than most people. He never complained or said "I wish I wasn't autistic" or anything like you might expect but rather Jason said he was grateful for everything he had in his life and that he wouldn't trade it for the world. Jason was the epitome of a team player. All he cared about was the well being of others. Sure he hoped that good things would happen to him but he mostly was concerned with how the people around him were doing. He mostly cared for his family and his basketball team (of which he was manager of). There is not a lot in this book to dislike or even negatively criticize. It was an amazing read. The major theme of this book is without a doubt "Stay focused". This is Jason's "slogan" for lack of a better term. But these two words are what Jason lives by. It is the reason Jason is able to do everything he does because of his amazing ability to stay focused. Another theme in this book goes hand in hand with staying focused, that is being positive. From this book it is easy to tell that Jason is always positive. It is seldom that something gets Jason down, with his struggles in autism and basketball Jason always maintained a positive outlook on the world. I would recommend this book to everyone who is looking to be uplifted or thinks that they have the hardest struggles and tribulations. This book helps you realize that there is always someone that has it worse. Jason has it "worse" than most people, however, he never complains or wishes for anything to be different. Jason is an example that through hard work and staying focused, anything is possible. This is a great read for everyone.

Feel good book, what sports are about

In this day and age where we look toward professional athletes as heroes and are too often disappointed, this book reminds us that the real heroes are everyday people. This book inspired me to attend my local HS to watch a basketball game and it renewed my faith in the future of our society. Read this book, if not for any other reason but to escape the obnoxious images we see too often in pro sports. It reminds us what sports are really about.
