LOVED IT

Gamer Girl was awesome it made me really want to play Fields of Fantasy! Maddy is really realatable and cool! I loved how the author blended togather Allora and SirLeo's converstations in with Maddy's Life. All in all Gamere Girl was a Great book that I highly recomend to anyone who is looking for a fun romance that also has lots of humor and real life situations!

My favorite book

I have never come across a more life resembling book. I love manga, and video games. It was a great read. I actually laughed-out-loud when I was reading this story. Teens of all ages who love either; romance, manga, video games or all of the above, I would definantly reccomend this book to you.

A must read!!!

I absolutely loved this book. I've read it atleast four times allready and I plan on reading it again soon. I've read alot of books along with this one, and although it's not my favorite, I can honestly say that I am proud to own GamerGirl and would reccomend it to anyone. :D

A good story that is very easy to relate to

This story is very good and exemplifies the struggle of any teen who has ver had to move school and settle into a completly new enviorment. I mean, who wouldn't want to excape reality for a few hours into the fields of fantasy? She, Maddy Starr, finds love and friends in a place she thought she would be doomed to hate forever. This story while it is very similar to other teen school and friend stories it definatly is worth checking out. The story will pull you in and you will find yourself fighting with Maddy till the very end of the story.

Off the beaten path, but great!

Despite the fact that I've read umpteen-million books about teenage misanthropes, Gamer Girl caught my attention as soon as I laid eyes on it. I read it that night, and I found the characters to be really unique, their alter egos even better, and the plot to be awesome. Even though I could figure out (correctly) where the plot was headed, the idea of incorporating a virtual reality game into a piece of chick lit was brilliant, to say the least. The writing itself was pretty good, although at times it got a little bit rant-y/fangirly. I'd recommend this book to chick lit lovers who want something a little bit out of the box.

Maddy is in the middle of the schoolyear, the one where she has some big dreams and plans for her high school future. That's when her parents divorce and she moves from bustling Boston to some suburban town with her mom and little sister. As if losing all her friends isn't enough, the house that Maddy's family is headed to just happens to be her (unicorn-loving) grandma's. And now the Aberzombies (termed the "Haters" by Maddy) at her new school have labeled her "Freak Girl". Will the problems ever stop? Then, Maddy's dad comes back one day to give her a birthday present. It's Fields of Fantasy, the MMORPG game that Maddy has wanted to play ever since her dad started. Eager to start playing, Maddy makes her character, Allora the elf magician, and learns the ropes of her new game. Balancing her unexpected school life and her blossoming virtual one, how is Maddy going to survive her first small-town year?

Gamer Girl: 5% of this generation's social population

It's just like as the title says; This book is about a Maddie Starr who had suddenly transferred schools due to family circumstances and is trying to get used to her new school if not completely pushing it aside from her preferences. She is nick-named "Freak Girl" by the school bully, gets addicted to an online game, and even falls for her "partner-in-crime" in said game. Oh, and she's an artist, a manga artist to be exact.

This book is well-written, it goes about how a typical girl would feel when she's feeling shunned by everyone around her. Sometimes she will have her strong moments, and sometimes she will have her weak moments. Though, it was a good read, I found the story to quite cliche; I figured out how it would end just through the first few chapters; maybe I just read too much of the things that are mainstream. I won't reveal anything for those who don't realize the cliches in the book though.

One thing the book depicted as a message is basically be yourself and don't worry about what people think of you; in the end there's always someone who will agree with you in some manner if not the same.

In my case, the book came in touch with how I sometimes would view things from where I stood; quickly judging one thing before giving it a try like Maddie. And also, I'm quite a big fan in drawing manga and watching anime like Maddie. Maybe if I tried, I could channel that "Gamer Girl" in me.

I loved this book, the plot is wonderful. I was able to finish this book so quick, the story is fast moving and very imaginative. Recommended to everyone.

"Gamer Girl"=EPIC FAIL!!

"Gamer Girl" may seem like an interesting book for teenagers, specifically for girls, and even more specifically for girls who like manga and video games. I had high hopes for this book, since I have read too many terrible chick lit/teenage books. Sadly, I add "Gamer Girl" to my pile of books that are equivalent to fecal matter. "Gamer Girl" seemed promising in the first few chapters, but then the dialogue turned into ridiculous word play and teenage 'slang'. The Author, Mari Mancusi, tries too hard to 'get the teenage feel' right. Apparently, a girl called Maddie has her life ruined, her parents divorce, she moves, new preppy school, bad kids, hot guy IN group wiith bad kids, etc. Maddie then gets sucked into an online video game, and meets a "secret lover". It takes her FAR too long to find out who it is, and the readers know who it is far before she does. Overall, a terrible book. Don't buy, unless you want to waste money, or have something to burn for your fireplace. Either way works if you get this horrible book.

I LUV THE BOOK CUZ ITS VERY INTERESTING HOW THIS GIRL'S LIFE CHANGES WITH A VIDEO GAME AND FINDS HER TRUE LOVE WITH IT AS SHE STRUGGLES TO FIND OUT WHO'S THE MYSTERY LOVER IN HER GAME. IT GETS INTENSE IN THE CLIMAX OF THIS BOOK. I LOOVVEEEDD ITT <3

Great Book

Gamer Girl is a awesome 23 chapter book! It really gets u thinking! I <3 it!!!

Terrible book.

Explanation for ratings:
Overall terrible book.
Realism got 2 stars because there are references to real manga.
Emotional got 3 stars because the book is dramatic. Very dramatic.
Just for fun and Sharing with friends got 3 stars because if you're the kind of person who gets a laugh out of absurdly stupid things, then this book is great. Even better if you have a friend to laugh with you.

This is the worst book I've ever read. The characters are extremely stereotyped and shallow, to the point where reading dialogue is infuriating. The plot is incredibly uninteresting and predictable. The author tried way too hard to incorporate popular manga and video games.

I really wonder how it managed to get published.

To all those parents who think that this book would be a nice little book for their teenage daughter to read: You should stop underestimating your child's maturity level.

A Really Great Book!

I just love love love love love this book. I've reread it four times now and I still can't stop. It's basically the same story most girl books have, nerdish girl meets hot nice guy, nice guy's group is mean and picks on her, she overcomes it and - well you have to read it to find out! But what I love is that it revolves around video games and manga! Two awesome things that I couldn't live my life without! If you like these things and cute romance tales, read it. It's a fun book.

In this story Maddi goes to her Grandma's house. Since her mom and dad are divorced Maddi and her mom live at the grandma's house. She now goes to a new school so she is a new student. At her other school she was popular. Now everyone calls her "Freak Girl". But she is trying to show everyone she's not a freak. Maddi finds out about a popular computer game at her new school. She starts playing and she is really good. The kids that make fun of her at school start playing and Maddi plays against them. But they don't know its Maddi. So Maddi starts dressing up in her grandmas hand-me-downs, and when she goes to school with them everyone makes fun of her more. This book takes place present day. I really like this book because it relates to me. The theme to this story is that girls can do the same thing as boys. This book connects to me because when I first came to Mountain Shadows I was a game freak.

this book is AaAammmazzing,as a girl gamer (no i will not go out wtih u but i will pwnnz0r u) it totally spoke 2 me, i reaally felt i could relate with maddie as a manga loving girl gamer. i find it hard enuf to put down my naruto, but this book keptt me comin bakc for moar. any grll who prides herself on her gamin skillz needz to read this book. Wish my life would have this happy ending.

When I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. I myself being a manga loving, anime watcher, games playing girl connected to thhis book very fast. I love it and definitely recommend it.

Perfect Read for Gamer Girls Everywhere

This is actually one of my favorite books in the world. Doesn't sound that impressive, but it is. The only books better than this is Harry Potter, and I've got to stay true to my inner HP nerd! Seriously, though, if you are a gamer girl, if you like video games, if you read manga, you should read this book. I really connected with Maddy because she's a lot like me. A manga and video game loving girl who is teased for these interests. I have experienced first hand what it's like to be a new girl and to have people think you're a freak because you think manga and video games are cool (especially as a girl), so I really understand Maddy. I get why she acts like she does, says the things she says, and feels the way she does. It's......the perfect embodiment of my feelings when I come to a new school. Read this book. I promise you, you won't regret it.

Just Plain Good

This book has just enough twists and turns to keep a reader going. And for all Gamer Girls is a great read because it gives in-game talk and actions that are funny in describing the online characters as well as the player before the beautiful face's personality. The drama in this is book is almost heart-stopping for girls that actually know how the characters feels and the ending just cheesy enough to make you smile ^_^.

Maddy Starr's world has come to an end. Her parents just divorced, and now she's living with her mother and her 8-year-old sister in the unicorn-infested house of her grandmother. Yikes! Could it possibly get any worse?

Yep, it can get worse.

On her first day at her new high school, Maddy is humiliated. As she's about to leave for school, her grandmother declares she will not allow her granddaughter to go to school looking like "a dead prostitute." When Maddy protests that this is her style and she has nothing else to wear, her grandmother promptly hands over something of her very own wardrobe - grandma-style jeans and a sweatshirt adorned with sparkling unicorns. OMG!

It doesn't take Maddy long to figure out that school is not going to be like it was back in Boston. Arriving in a unicorn sweatshirt is bad enough, but she quickly becomes the victim of a group of popular kids she dubs "The Haters." Lucy, Chelsea, Chad, and the biggest bully, Billy, pretty much consider it their job to make life miserable for Maddy.

One bright spot in an otherwise dark world is the birthday gift Maddy gets from her dad. He gives her a subscription to an online fantasy game called Fields of Fantasy. She has watched him play the game for years and has always dreamed of joining as a real gamer. The game is fun to play and gives her some great inspiration for the manga drawings she enjoys creating. An added bonus comes in the form of an online friendship she develops while playing.

Even if everyone at her new school hates her, at least Sir Leo seems to appreciate and understand her online character, Allora.

GAMER GIRL offers readers a look at popular online gaming, the increasingly popular genre of manga, and a glimpse of the frustration of fitting in and dealing with bullies. Mancusi has created a fast-paced story that will surely interest teen readers. They'll not only be able to relate to the characters, but also be encouraged to explore their own talents and be themselves.

Most gurls will love. Very realistic, maddy takes gamer girl, and will hit home to all those manga lovers, game lovers, and "freaks" out there. I mean who doesn't love it when the "freak" gets the cute, hot guy? And its totally a plus when he's a gamer boy himself!
