I am an elementary teacher as well as the mom of a 5 year old that is starting kindergarten. My son already knew all his letter sounds when I let him start using this app. This app showed him how the letter sounds go together to make words and is really the reason why he is now reading even before he starts school.
It is somewhat repetitive--it just has the kids spell 10 words to get part of a house. There is no context for the word, so it doesn't explain what more obscure words like cod or hub are and actually build vocabulary--it just helps build phonemic awareness. The collection of house pieces has been motivating for my son, but he gets frustrated when he is sometimes given a piece that he already have. I also do not recommend using the sight words list because many of these are not phonetic and this is confusing. There are over 140 words in the first 2 word lists though that are phonetic, so there's plenty to learn. Overall, this is educationally sound.
