Everyone that reads this book visits the website that the author of this definitive book personally monitors. She helped get the Guinea Fowl Breeders Association started and attends the annual convention every year. The book covers all areas from egg to adult for those who keep the birds for pets or pest control and even discusses issues for those who raise the birds for the (gak!) table. Terminology, incubation, ordering keets, the brooder, nursey, acclimation, pecking order, male/female, housing, and neighbors are just some of the subjects covered. This is a better resource for backyard poultry of any kind than anything else I've read.
New to guinea hens, this book helped to introduce and explain these birds on a number of levels. I was looking to get guineas for pest control. Ferguson uses a sense of humor to introduce you to the world of guinea hens and suggestions for keeping anywhere from 2 - 20+. There is very little out there written specifically for guinea hen purchase and care. This is definitely an easy read with a mission to help you succeed. Bummer no membership discount.
This is a good book for anyone thinking of having a few guineas. Easy to understand, it carefully explains the basics. I found it very useful.
