Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Mary F. Mulcahy, MD (Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine)
Description: This comprehensive book covers all aspects of oncology, including molecular biology, epidemiology, and both surgical and drug therapy.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a comprehensive and in-depth review of some of the most common diseases in the world. These are very worthy objectives which have not been addressed exclusively in any single book. The ojectives are met using well-organized text, attractive color plates, and appropriate figures and tables.
Audience: This book is written for physicians and scientists with an interest in GI oncology and it will appeal to practicing physicians in medical oncology, radiation oncology and surgery as well as general internists and gastroenterologists. The editors and authors are all credible authorities in the field.
Features: This book covers general concerns in GI oncology (such as nutrition and screening) as well as each specific organ system. Each section covers a specific organ system and addresses epidemiology, molecular biology, staging, and management. The completness of the text and the adherence to this format is one of the strenghts of the book. The color plates are well chosen.
Assessment: This is a very useful and long awaited book. There is no other book that covers GI oncology in such a comprehensive manner. It is one that I will refer to often.
