Overview

A USA Today bestselling novel

Leda Stowe loves living on her tiny island off the California coast, taking care of rescued exotic animals. Her peaceful existence is interrupted one night, however, when a gorgeous man with a sword appears out of nowhere in her lion's enclosure.

Instead of fearing for his life, the man has a conversation with the lion and casually walks out to face Leda—all six foot and change of him, wearing nothing but jeans riding low on his hips. He exudes more life magic than Leda has ever seen in her life, easily erasing the wards she's put on her island home and imposing his own.

He is Hunter, one of the Immortal brothers, jerked away from his snug bed by The Calling spell, thrown here when the spell was broken. He knows there's something wrong with the world, but he'd rather hole up on this quiet island with the beautiful Leda, and let the world deal with it.

But too soon Leda and Hunter, and the lion Mukasa, must journey to the mainland to join Hunter's brothers for the final battle against evil, to rescue the trapped Tain, which will call for Hunter to make a sacrifice that threatens to break him.

Book 4 of the Immortals series. This is a full-length novel (95,000 words). Originally published in 2007, The Gathering has been fully revised and reedited.

    Fun book. Recommended.

This is apparently the fourth in a series of five books about the Immortal Warriors. Jennifer Ashley wrote books one, four and five and these are the ones i read. The IW's are brothers, sons of goddesses and fighr evil. One brother, Tain, has been taken by a powerful demon and here in book four they all gather to save him. This story, however, is Hunter's, and he is a charming character with a pet lion. What more could you want? Action, adventure and romance.

Hunter, an Immortal Warrior whose mother is Kali, is magically taken to an island outside of Los Angeles into lion's cage. Mukasa, a lion, abused by his previous owner likes Hunter alot. Leda Stowe, a witch who used Death Magic to save someone she loved, cast out of Coven of Light by her actions. Leda leads solitary life taking care of abused animals until Hunter lands on the island. A spell called The Calling jerks Hunter from his bed play learns that Life Magic is fading from the Earth while Death Magic is gaining ground. Hunter learns that he could care for Leda very much but is unwilling to put himself into that position again. Hunter learns from Kali that the world needs his help and needs to make a difficult choice as well. Leda won't be forced into inaction by anyone especially Hunter. Will Hunter learn the truth about Tain? Can Hunter admit his feelings? Will Leda accept life as is or move to action? Your answers await you in The Gathering.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. Yet I was pleasantly surprised by depth and dimension. The Immortals Series continues to offer up new and interesting stories that are compelling and page turners too. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Great ending to a great series

I loved Hunters attiude in the book how he was willing to do whatever it took to help his brothers save Tain. Also how all the Goddesses came to Leda telling how what she must do. I must say I can't wait for Tain's story.

    more from this reviewer

excellent saga with a mesmerizing ending

The missing Immortal brother Hunter is summoned, but ends up caged with a lion on an isolated island. Irate hermit Leda Stowe, a witch, who prefers no contact with Immortals, humans, or her own kind, demands he leave even as she is attracted to her uninvited guest. Hunter wants Leda, but has no time to seduce the bewitching beauty as there is a world to save. --- Hunter tries to reconnect with three of his Immortal brothers for what he knows will prove a distasteful war as the enemies are his insane sibling brother Tain, who vanished centuries ago, and his demon master. With Leda at his side along with three of his brothers and their women, and a horde of witches, shapeshifters, and vampires, they go off the fight a more powerful foe. --- Book four of this terrific romantic fantasy finishes off the complex tale of good vs. bad with a world at stake. Leda is a unique protagonist who brings freshness to the mix with her disdain of sentient beings although she self loathingly is attracted to the Immortal hunk. Jennifer Ashley who began the Immortals (with CALLING followed by Robin T. Popp¿s DARKENING and Joy Nash¿s AWAKENING) completes this excellent saga with a mesmerizing ending. --- Harriet Klausner
