    A beloved tale

I originally read this book in 6th grade or so for a book report. Now, at 40, I still remember it and love it! It captures the imagination and delivers a story that is hard to put down. (I actually ended up raising pigeons for almost 10 years after I read the book!)

    I LOVED this book!

I know the title suggests a pigeon with a homosexual neck, but that is not the case. Back in the old days, 'gay' meant colorful, you see. I'm still in the process of reading this book, but I'm certainly enjoying it. I recommend this book to EVERYONE.

A twelve year old reader of hundreds of books

This is probably my favorite book, and that says a lot. I have read many Newberry Honor/Medal books and this is one of the few that deserves it. Everything, the descriptions, the narrative from the bird's point of view (kids like that), and the many interesting facts about homing pigeons made this a book I couldn't put down. In short, I highly recommend this book to animal lovers and kids in general.

Book Review- Gay-Neck The Story of a Pigeon

Gay-Neck The Story of a Pigeon, written by Dhan Gopal Mukerji,is a story about a great pigeon(Gay-Neck) that lives in India.Gay-Neck is a noble, caring, and brave pigeon. Gay-Neck was raised on he roof of his master's(a 12 year old boy)house. There he learned how to get away from trouble and death from his father. Then after he learned all the basics from his father, Gay-Neck's master received a letter for Gay-Neck to go to war. One thing I didn't like about this book is that it was confusing and in some parts and a little boring. On the other hand there were some exciting parts. For example, Gay-Neck goes to war as a carrier pigeon, and goes through alot of trouble. This book also has some sorrow in it. In this book there are some deaths, but I can't tell you who dies or not, you'll just have to find out for yourself. In conclusion,I would recommend this book to a person who really would not get confused about a book, and that likes alot of drama.I think I got the book truly because of the colorful cover. I'm not saying it was a bad book, but this wasn't the book for me.

    Insightful(from a birds eye view)

Gay-Neck was very imaginative. While I was reading this I actually wondered if the bird could really speak with such insight of the world around him. At first it seems like another boring book assigned by your teacher, however it is quit fun. I strongly suggest reading it.
