The 24 full-color postcards in this outstanding collection display stunning examples of poster art from the golden age. All
The Gay Nineties recall an era of happy times - of lovely women, handsome men and festive occasions. The era exuded an aura of excitement and charm that poster artists of the period captured magnificently in bold colors and arresting images.
The 24 full-color postcards in this outstanding collection display stunning examples of poster art from the golden age. All of the selections have been painstakingly reproduced from the extremely rare turn-of-the-century publications Les Maitres de l'Affiche. Included are works by many of the foremost artists of the Belle Epoque: Jules Cheret, Toulouse-Lautrec, Alphonse Mucha, Edward Penfield, Lucien Lefevre, J.A. Grun, Louis Anquetin, Dudley Hardy, and others.
The cards depict a variety of subjects - from Cheret's lively dance-hall denizens to Georges de Feure's delicate and voluptuous grande bourgeoise, from Mucha's luxuriant harvest fantasy to Anquetin's portrait of a bawdy vaudevillean.
Each card in this modestly priced collection contains an identifying caption on the reverse and is perforated and easily detachable for mailing or framing. Here is a superlative exhibition in miniature to delight art lovers, collectors and poster enthusiasts.
