Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Bethany Miller Cole
It is the eve of the Fairy Olympics. One last magical object, a gymnastics hoop, is still in the possession of Jack Frost's goblins. The goblins have stolen the hoop and other magical sports objects because holding them will allow the goblins to become artificially talented at the sport during the Fairy Olympics, netting them unearned victories. If all the magical objects are not returned to the Sports Fairies to whom they belong by the opening of the games, safety, fair-play and fun will be compromised in both the fairy and human worlds. Humans Kirsty and Rachel help the fairies reclaim the last stolen object by discovering the goblins practicing with the magical gymnastics hoop in their school gym. The girls pose as gymnastics coaches and trick the goblins into giving the hoop back just in time for the start of the Fairy Olympics. With its cast of forgettable characters and a predictable, nonsensical plot, this book will probably not find a permanent home on many young readers' shelves. Though it is the final book in the series, this volume strives to be a stand-alone title and those who have read the other six books may find Meadows' efforts to bring new readers up to speed tedious. However, with a substantial word count and a good mix of common and new words, this book could be a vehicle to engage younger girls interested in sports and/or fairies, thereby improving overall reading skills. Wonderful books for young readers!

My granddaughter who is in 2nd grade read one of these books while waiting for her dad in the dentist's office and fell in love with it. Although she could not remember the title, she asked that I take her to B&N to find it. After about an hour of her searching (and nothing else would satisfy her), I suggested she let me search the internet. Fortunately, I found them on this website and had them sent to her. She was very happy to receive them and continues to enjoy them. Easy reading and delightful stories for young girls.
