Overview

The first exploration of the sex lives of modern teens, as reported from the frontlines by twenty-year-old Marty Beckerman.
Innovatively combining fact and fiction, the book is filled with mind-shattering stats, news reports, and confessions from adolescents nationwide about the new American "Hook-Up Culture," in which 7,700 kids lose their virginity every day.
Far from religious proselytizing, Generation S.L.U.T. seeks to find the balance between sexual freedom and sexual responsibility, and even the most cynical readers (not to mention parents) will find themselves speechless and heartbroken. Blunt and brutal, tackling everything from preteen oral sex to gun violence, sexual assault, and suicide, Beckerman's tour de force through contemporary adolescence will leave you stunned, breathless, and ultimately horrified.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
Hunter S. Thompson Good work, you morbid little bastard.
Library Journal
Beckerman is either a brilliant voice for the new generation of Twenties or else a sex-crazed, in-your-face college kid who needs to grow up. A junior at American University and contributor to New York Press, he published parts of this book on his web site, www.martybeckerman.com. Seeking to tell readers, through a mixture of fiction and fact, what his generation is like, he establishes the following: they have sex (lots), they take drugs (lots), they find partners (lots), and they don't use the polite language of this description. But they also see glimpses of something deeper and more meaningful in life, though they're not sure how or why to find it. The fiction part of this book is a short novel about some screwed-up kids hooking up with each other until one of them misses prom night and lands in rehab after an overdose. Sprinkled throughout the novella are statistics and facts to back up the action in the novel. The text is peppered with black-and-white comic strips and drawings (not artistic) throughout. Verbal pornography? Maybe. Literature? No.-Linda Beck, Indian Valley P.L., Telford, PA Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
