Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Children's Literature
Through explanations and illustrations of the DNA model and genetics, the author provides a beginning look at genetically modifying foods. Each chapter is broken into smaller subsections and includes a Talking Point. These talking points are really discussion generators through related questions and ideas. For the science-minded child, this book will define plasmids and pesticides. Useful addresses to Greenpeace and other organizations are provided as well. In the book's conclusion, specific questions from the reading are offered. This encourages the reader to not only think about the answer but also to research and reread the material. While the book is informational and appropriate for a research report or project, it does not seem engaging to the average reader. Experiments or further activities would have kept the reader's attention for a longer period of time. Part of the "Saving Our World" series. 2000, Aladdin Books Limited, Ages 10 to 12, $21.90.
