Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Barbara Carroll Roberts
Young readers who love Tony Abbott's "The Secrets of Droon" series will almost certainly adore this latest volume. Neal, aka Zabilac, and his band of magic-powered friends set off to find the Moon Medallion, hidden somewhere in the mysterious City of Ut and rescue their friend Eric, held under an evil spell by the "fearsome moon dragon," Gethwing. As with the other books in this series, the plot zooms along from dangerous encounter to dangerous encounter for Neal and his gang, with plenty of magic spells and magical powers thrown in to overcome the bad guys. There's little actual character development here, the dialog is wooden, and the exposition can be excruciatingly heavy-handed, but newly independent readers who enjoy fantasy and adventure probably don't care—they've made this a wildly popular series.
