Die Grundlagen für diese Theorien wurden von drei bedeutenden Männern, die dafür in die Geschichte eingingen, aufgestellt. Ihre Namen waren Gregor Johann Mendel, Charles Darwin und Joseph Muller. (vgl. ebd.)
Charles Darwin, der 1809 in England geboren wurde, ging für seine Thesen zur Evolution in die Geschichtsbücher ein.
Auf seiner fünfjährigen Weltreise, sammelte er, besonders auf den Galapagosinseln, viele Fossilien, Insekten und Gesteinsproben. Nach seiner Rückkehr analysierte er diese Funde und stellte seine Vermutungen zum Ablauf der Evolution auf.
1859 veröffentlichte er diese Überlegungen in seinem Werk „On the Origin of species", auch um Wallace, der eine ähnliche Theorie aufgestellt hatte, zuvorzukommen. Das Buch war nach kurzer Zeit komplett ausverkauft. (vgl. de.wikipedia.org)
Die grundlegendsten und bis heute gültigen Aussagen sind jene der natürlichen Auslese („natural selection"), des ständigen Wettkampfes der Lebewesen um Lebensraum und Nahrung („struggle for life") und das Überleben des Stärkeren und Besseren („survival of the fittest"). (vgl. Natura 1991, S.355)
