Gentle Baby Care: No-Cry, No-Fuss, No-Worry--Essential Tips for Raising Your Baby

I'm a busy mother of three and I love the ease of use in this book. Typical and unusual topics are covered with quick, complete information. I've looked up Fever, Vomiting, Unwanted advice, Pets and baby, Talking, Ear piercing, Attending worship service with your baby, Homemade babyfood, and Eye Color. Other interesting sections include a quiz to help you decide whether to use cloth diapers or disposables, and a nifty chart on determining the case of a rash, and another chart on helping you choose the right car seat. Very handy to have on the counter for everyday tips.

A great addition to any parent's library

I love this book. The advice is practical and seems to speak to 'real' parents of 'real' babies -- and has about it a gentleness and true regard for both. As far as the a-z format, it works for me much better than one based on chronological development, because so many of the topics covered span different time periods with different babies. If you've read any of Dr. Sears' books, they complement each other very well. In another recent book of hers I read ('No Cry Sleep Solution'), Pantley writes, 'Dr. Sears is my parenting hero.' A parent who's interested in informing her- or himself would do well to buy books by both authors. Each author serves to illuminate the message of the other...i.e., different words, similarly great approach. This book is chock full of helpful tidbits. You won't regret reading it.

    A good reference book

I found this book to be very informatable. Every topic is situated in the index, very simple to look up a certain bit of info and advise if needed. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to find solutions to your babys needs, but it can get overwhelming at times. It's good to have a reference such as this book to get you through the first years. I would consider it to be the encyclopedia of baby books.

Gentle Baby Care: No-Cry, No-Fuss, No-Worry--Essential Tips for Raising Your Baby

Gentle Baby Care gives information on hundreds of topics. Each topic begins with a question, this is followed by general information in a ¿Learn About It¿ section, which is generally brief and concise. This is followed with more specific solutions, checklists, charts and such. And finishes with a list of websites and books as additional resources. An example is the entry on ¿Colic¿. It begins, ¿My baby is very fussy and cries a lot, mostly at the end of the day. Does she have colic?¿ The Learn About It area defines colic and describes the known causes. This is followed by ¿Can Colic Be Prevented?¿ which explains health issues that can cause crying, and also tells what is known about colic prevention. The next part ¿Things That May Help Your Baby¿ gives a long bullet list of many ideas that may help your baby feel better and stop crying. As is typical in the book, there is yet another section called, ¿Tips for Coping¿ which gives tips on how YOU can handle this difficult time. Next comes, ¿When Should I Call the Doctor?¿ with a bullet list to guide you on when you should be concerned. The last section, ¿For More Information¿ guides you to several books on the subject, if you want to get into more detail. The layout of this book allows for a quick yet thorough examination on topics that may arise during the first two years such as Bathing, Burping, Car Seat Crying, Constipation, Diaper changing (tips, choosing diapers, and what to do when your baby doesn¿t want to be changed), Fever, Food allergies, Grandparents (both overzealous and reluctant), Immunizations, Massage, Milestones, Sleep (fabulous sections on this topic!), Travel, Visiting, Weaning. These are just a few examples. I highly recommend this book as one to keep handy for the first two years.

    a great shower gift

I just finished reading through 'Gentle Baby Care' and found myself wishing that I had had it during the early days of caring for my son (he's 2 now.) This book covers similiar ground to Dr. Sears' 'Baby Book' but the format is more user friendly especially if you are sleep deprived and frazzled. All the topics are listed alphabetically in the table of contents making it a breeze to find the information you need without wading through other topics. Each topic itself is laid out so clearly and concisely that even in the earliest, dizziest days of mothering I could have followed along. Finally, Ms. Pantley's attitude towards both babies and parents is so warm and loving, it makes for a soothing and reassuring read. This is a great shower gift for a new mom or dad.

Hard to find the info you want

This book is just like any other baby book, except it is organized in a very annoying way. You have to really hunt around to find the information you want. Not a good choice for busy moms.

Wonderful Read from A to Z!

This wonderful reference book is easy to read. I have to say that when I am reading baby care books, I get bored, and tend to push the books at the back of my bookshelf. Not this book though! I kept reading! Even though I don¿t have to worry about my daughter in a ¿Circumcision Decision¿, I still read it that section because I found the book interesting and full of information. I highly recommend this book to any parent-to-be. It¿s best to get this as one of your pregnancy books just to see what¿s ahead and be prepared from when things do happen. I also found that if you don¿t know your baby is suffering from Separation Anxiety, you¿d look at the back of the book in the index under crying, which is a big part of separation anxiety, you¿ll find that the crying index points to separation anxiety as well as other reasons for your baby to cry. (Just thought I¿d point that out.) I have to say Elizabeth Pantley has done it again! Having a mother write a book let¿s you know that she knows what she¿s talking about because she¿s been there, done that. Thanks for the great read Elizabeth!

    I love this book!!

Finally!! A user-friendly 'I need help right NOW' book! This wonderful gem is chock full of expert advice. When my baby is teething and inconsolable, a quick flip through the book to 'teething' gives me the concise, immediate answers I need and the expert advice that I'm looking for. When your crying baby refuses a bottle while you¿re weaning him from the breast, and your toddler is tugging at your sleeve¿you¿ll thank your lucky stars for having the quick help at hand, rather than having to read volumes to get to your answer. A book no busy parent today should be without. Wonderful!!!

A unique and wonderful baby book

This book covers all the standard topics in most baby books, (standard milestones and health issues) and it also adds information on more hard to find but important topics like: -how to deal with a mother-in-law or friend who criticises you or gives you too much unwanted advice -how to stop your baby from crying in the car seat -how to handle an overnight visit when you take your baby -how to introduce the family pet to the new baby -how to enjoy a restaurant meal with your baby there -how to pick the right car seat, stroller and swing -how to figure out what your baby's rash is - there's a chart -how to raise a vegetarian baby These are just some of the things that are covered. There's so much in this big, fat book I can't believe they sell it for such a low price.
