Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
Based on the PBS television series, the four main characters transform into super heroes and jump into books to solve problems. A giant has stepped on Pig's new toy and he does not know how to get it back. His friends come to help him. They jump into the book, George and the Dragon, to look for a solution. Pig goes armed with alphabet power; Red Riding Hood has word power; Princess Pea exhibits spelling power, and Super Why has the power to read. They find that George is afraid of a dragon and cannot, therefore, rescue Princess Hope from her tower. Each hero helps in his or her specialty before Super Why comes to the rescue and changes the order of the words in the story. "The dragon scares George" is changed to "George scares the dragon." George boldly talks to the dragon and it goes quietly away. The characters leave the book. Pig bravely asks the giant to move his foot off the toy and the giant does so. Children familiar with the TV show may enjoy reading about further adventures of the characters. This book is in the "All Aboard Reading" series. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.

My grandson loves Super Why and all his storybook friends so that's why I got him this book. The story teaches a life lesson in a childlike way and also supports reading skills. My grandson has a Super Why costume that I made for him and he is always off another adventure!
