Direct Source comes up with a fine three-disc collection of George Jones material for a decent budget price. The big plus here is that the material is cross-licensed from Musicor and Columbia, so one gets the Pappy Daily-produced material as well as the Bill Sherrill stuff. So, while "Love Bug" and "White Lightning" are in the set, so are "She Thinks I Still Care" and "A Good Year for the Roses." Sure, "The Race Is On" is included, as is "Things Have Gone to Pieces," but there is a huge omission here: the exclusion of "He Stopped Loving Her Today." So there are marks off for not including the most seminal hit of his mature period. But there's still a lot to like here, and for the price, this collection really can't be beat.
