Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
George Walton Lucas, Jr. was born on May 14, 1944. He was an active, creative child who loved comic books and watched adventure shows on the family's black and white television. His love of fast cars resulted in a serious automobile accident just before his high school graduation. Following his recovery, George devoted himself to his studies, acquiring an Associate Degree before entering film making classes at the University of Southern California where he met other film enthusiasts. His first feature film was released in 1971; American Graffiti came out in 1973; and Star Wars entered theaters in 1977. He went on to produce ten more successful films. The book is illustrated with black and white drawings. Pages with notes about specific movies are interspersed throughout. The overall experience of the book is a bit confusing and sometimes misleading. A five-page introduction is written in first person giving the impression that Lucas is talking directly to the reader, even though the publishing information clearly states that this is an unauthorized biography. A page with drawings of people important in the book states that Marcia Griffin is his first wife. No mention is made there or anywhere in the text about the end of a marriage or a second wife. Includes a table of contents, a glossary, a bibliography, and an index. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.
