Trouble is brewing in New Mouse City, the capital of Mouse Island. All heck has broken loose because Geronimo Stilton, editor of The Rodent's Gazette, has just published the New Mouse City Yellow Pages. Mice are outraged because all the phone numbers in the Yellow Pages are mixed up. Mice are protesting outside Stilton's office. When Stilton's cousin Trap shows up, Geronimo is ready to bail. Trap suggests they leave New Mouse City for a while until things settle down. Trap has just seen a television show about a mysterious island covered in silver and he wants to search for it. Geronimo's sister and nephew have already signed on to go with him. Geronimo reluctantly agrees, and before long, the four mice find themselves battling cat pirates. Yikes! Children will cheer for these characters, the good guys, in their fight against the Black Bandit and his pirate crew. Readers will find that the text is more lively than usual in this book. It is peppered with words in different fonts and colors; for example, the words "yellow pages" are yellow. The hot air balloon that takes the four mice out to sea is "purple with yellow dots." These words have alternating purple and yellow letters. Some words are large or in bold letters for emphasis. Silly, colorful illustrations adorn each page of the book. The creative lettering and funny text will amuse young readers and keep them on their toes. The plot is a bit convoluted, but it boils down to clever mice outwitting bad pirate cats. Readers never do find out why the Yellow Pages were such a muddle. This title, which is a book in the "Geronimo Stilton" series, features maps of New Mouse City and Mouse Island. 2004 (orig. 2000), Scholastic, Ages 6 to 10.

    Great for new readers

    I have a 5 year old learning to read and a 2 year old who likes to listen...these books are great for both. They have lots of engaging pictures and colors on every page, a little plot and mystery, and overall the kids just like them.

    I love this series!

    My daughter is 8 and has just recently got the book craze thanks to these books. This series is her favorite right now and every night we have to read these books before she goes to bed. When we are in a book store, these are the books she buys and when she is at the school library, these are the books she takes out. Both her father and I find the books very enjoyable as well which is just a bonus. One of our favorite parts of the books is the way the write the words in all different fonts. Ella loves to read them how they are written which sometimes is really loud!! They are great books and I would recommend them to anyone.

    Cats NO match for Geronimo!

    This book was awesome! Geronimo and his cousin get captured by pirate cats who want to eat them for dinner. Even though I love Geronimo Stilton, I sort of liked the Black Bandit in this book. Pirates are just so cool. The part when the pirate cats were going to eat Geronimo was the scariest. The best part is when he finds the treasure! I like the way the book is printed with the words being different colors and styles. It has lots of pictures and maps too. It makes it easier for me to read it. I am going to read all fifty titles as they are translated from Italian to English!
