Overview

Conductor Riccardo Chailly offers something very different with this all-new recording: Gershwin. Chailly and the Gewandhausorchester relax and give exciting performances of the composer's famous Rhapsody in Blue, Catfish Row -- Symphonic Suite, Concerto in F for Piano and Orchestra and Rialto Ripples. This is not Chailly's first encounter with Gershwin on the Decca label, yet he and the orchestra sound as if they are enjoying and discovering the works anew. Pianist Stefano Bollani, a pianist with a superb jazz background, improvises at various points on the recording and gives a fresh twist on what can be expected from these well-known Gershwin scores. Editorial Reviews

Gramophone - James Inverne
[May 2011 Recording of the Month] The performances here are alive, alert, on their toes. That said, everyone seems to be having the time of their lives.... One of the finest Gershwin recordings around.
