Caligiuri makes a convincing case that, as employers no long show any long-term loyalty to their employees, it's up to workers to take control of their own destiny. Thus she provides a progressive plan of attack focusing on empowerment and fulfillment-chapters range from "Discover What Really Motivates You" to "Integrate Your Career with Your Life Priorities"-with helpful questionnaires, exercises, and case studies of people whose multiple career "acts" have given them happiness as well as financial freedom (such as a nurse of 30 years who turned her love of sewing into a paying side business, or Caligiuri herself, whose career has included four acts). Meet the Author

Paula Caligiuri, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Human Resource Management Department at Rutgers University where she directed the Center for HR Strategy from 2001 through 2010. She has been recognized as one of the most prolific authors in the field of international business for her work in global careers and global leadership development. Paula has written (with Steven Poelmans) Harmonizing Work, Family, and Personal Life (Cambridge Press, 2008) and (with Dave Lepak and Jaime Bonache) Managing the Global Workforce (Wiley, 2010). She has covered career-related topics for CNN and has hosted a pilot for a television show, CareerWATCH. Paula holds a Ph.D. from Penn State University in industrial and organizational psychology.

    Outstanding book! A must read. I wish I had this insight years ago. Highly recommend for all levels of career development

    This book has great insight and useful exercises that help the reader customize their approach for their career and life. It is interesting how many things I have done without knowing, but equally surprising how many options I may have taken for granted. It has helped me to see things more clearly and given me ideas on how I may do things differently in the future. With the current economic challenges, you need to position yourself for the future, and this book can help guide you on a path to security in your life and career.

    Career review
