Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Nicole Peterson Davis
Throughout history jewelry has communicated meaning. Some jewelry (like a wedding ring) is symbolic of love. Other pieces of jewelry (like a cross) symbolize beliefs. Some jewelry is worn to show status or wealth. And other pieces of jewelry symbolize friendship. After describing some of the history of jewelry, this excellent guide (from the series "creative adventure guides") shows the step by step process needed to create a friendship bracelet. The illustrations and photographs in the book are clear and easy to understand, so someone who has never done any prior weaving can easily follow the directions in this book to create a beautiful friendship bracelet. One chapter in the book also contains advanced instructions to create a more complicated type of friendship bracelet. This book could be used as a source for a report on jewelry, or as a guide to begin making bracelets from beads. This book is a great addition to the series, and follows the pattern of teaching the history of the skill and then teaching about how to accomplish the skill. Reviewer: Nicole Peterson Davis
