Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Grover and Elmo literally move through this book, as Grover instructs preschool children to put the book down and jump over it, run around it and do push ups on top of it. The story is written in silly Grover talk, including his rhetorical questions throughout. "That stretching feels good, does it not?" While the childish text and colorful pictures will delight young children, the repetition of inanities will soon wear thin for adults. There is a section at the end directed toward parents detailing some ideas to try at home to get children moving. Important information is shared in the text about the developmental abilities of preschoolers, helping parents to determine what they should expect of their young children. The importance of balancing movement and play, sleep and rest plus the need for nutritious food is also emphasized. The familiar Sesame Street characters will be a plus for some children, but the combination of reading and exercise will be stretch for most adults. 2005, Random House, Ages 3 to 5.
