Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Piotr Orlov
Rarely does an MC live up to this much hype. In recent years, the one rapper who did was Eminem. So perhaps it's only fitting that New York rapper 50 Cent -- who counts the Shady One as his mentor and "favorite white boy" -- has become buzz-worthy. On his long-awaited, survival-of-the-fittest debut, Get Rich or Die Tryin', 50 né Curtis Jackson paints a landscape ruled by the strong-armed including his crew the G Unit and inhabited by a score of sycophants, hangers-on, and sucker MCs, including archrival Ja Rule, whom 50 disses on the catchy "Wanksta." Like Snoop Dogg and 2Pac before him, 50 Cent scores big with his singsong cadences and his enthusiastically witty rhymes....

Rarely does an MC live up to this much hype. In recent years, the one rapper who did was Eminem. So perhaps it's only fitting that New York rapper 50 Cent -- who counts the Shady One as his mentor and "favorite white boy" -- has become buzz-worthy. On his long-awaited, survival-of-the-fittest debut, Get Rich or Die Tryin', 50 né Curtis Jackson paints a landscape ruled by the strong-armed including his crew the G Unit and inhabited by a score of sycophants, hangers-on, and sucker MCs, including archrival Ja Rule, whom 50 disses on the catchy "Wanksta." Like Snoop Dogg and 2Pac before him, 50 Cent scores big with his singsong cadences and his enthusiastically witty rhymes. Despite his Queens address, he boasts a decidedly West Coast sound, due in no small part to executive producers Em and Dr. Dre, who add credibility to the G-funk party and have made 50 Cent an heir to rap royalty. The lilt in 50's choruses is the perfect foil to Dre's menacing bounces on the club-thumpers "What Up Gangsta" and "In Da Club." Meanwhile, "Patiently Waiting," 50's duet with Slim Shady, is a superior us-against-the-world standoff. In such moments, 50 Cent's confidence isn't that of a bullet-riddled Queens Boulevard underdog but that of a reigning champion deserving of the accolades. Let's just hope he gets rich before he dies trying.
The Source - Steven Williams
The Queens native's seamless, wired-jaw flow moves fluidly over proficient production on the boisterous "What Up Gangsta" and the melodic, piano-driven "High All the Time."

    I Also Recommend:

    50 Cent's best album yet

A true street thug with years of credibilty and a near-death experience gave 50 the buzz he needed for this explosive major label debut. With the assistance of Dr. Dre and Eminem (two heavyweights in their own right), 2003 was going to be his year. And it was. Delivering his hard-hitting, dance/gritty chart-topper, In Da Club, it catapaulted him into superstar status immediately. Get Rich or Die Tryin' is jam packed with a gangster edge with tracks, Patiently Waiting, featuring Eminem stealing the show. Also, the diss song intended for Ja Rule, Back Down, laid down the blueprint on how to end careers in the rap industry. Filled with Dre's bass-heavy beats and flawless production, 50 had no problem selling millions of copies. This album made him into a household name and he never looked back.

    Impressive

I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of 50 Cent now and days. In my opinion he's gone pop, but on this album of his, he holds it down. My favorite song is "Many Men" because it has a great feel and a melodic flow that's very dark. My other favorite is "High All The Time" because 50 tells hood stories much like Biggie did on his debut album. The rest of the album's good too, but these two songs are the deepest and truest in my opinion. I like this CD and I wish 50 would've stayed with this syle instead of going more R&B. Main point is get this, because it is very very good.

    The God Of Cd's

50 Cent is the Best Rapper Around! I Got His Limited Edition CD/DVD The Day It Came Out. His CD is Awsome. I Really Like The Song Patiently Waiting With Eminem. That Song Stood Out The Most to Me. Overall This Cd Is All Good! It Has No Filler Like Ja Rule's Latest Cd.

    THIS CD SUCKS!!!

no way does it suck, it is THE BEST album i have ever owned. If you dont like this cd then theres something very wrong with you. 50 Cent has the skills and talent to be the best rapper ever, and he tops it off with the very best of the tracks. i couldnt believe how great it was when i bought it. I thought he would just be another rapper trying to make a little extra cash by making an album, but noooooo. if i could give this 10 million stars, that wouldnt be enough to say how great it is, so if yoiu dont have it, buy it now... if you have it.... i dont care.
