Finally - The Ultimate Insider's Tactical Guide to Getting a Job

"Get the Job You Want, Even When No One's Hiring" is definitely NOT another Same-O Lame-O "Career 101" rehash. The strategies and tactics and stepwise plans in this book should come with a HIGH VOLTAGE warning label!

Fact is, this book will make a lot of high-priced career consultants and coaches ANGRY specifically because Ford R. Myers really does "spill the beans" on what it takes to get hired in today's terrible job market. And the ugly truth is that ALL the rules change when no one's hiring.

How is this book different? In short, every page is packed with contrarian information which - up til now - was reserved for the executive elite. Just a tiny sampling...

    * Resume? Nice to have - but put it away if you want to get hired.

    * Recruiters? That's the last place to turn for help.

    * Which interview questions to prepare for - and which to prepare NEVER to answer!

    * Negotiate tough - in this economy? Yes, you'd better!

Unlike so many books - and book series - that have been rehashing and paraphrasing the same old hackneyed advice in both good times and bad, "Get the Job You Want, Even When No One's Hiring" lays out EXACTLY what you need to do, say, think, and prepare at every single step of the job search process - no matter how long you may have been looking, no matter what your salary, and no matter if you're after your first job - or your 20th!

If you're a working professional of any stripe who wants to raise your game - and by that, I mean take charge of your career, find the work you love, and earn what you deserve - you MUST buy this book now.

Ford Myers has redefined excellence in the career management book category. Get ready to dog-ear the pages, highlight major sections, take copious notes in the margins and get into massive action using this step by step portable mentor, advisor, and coach as your guide.

    Great book = very useful

I have found this book to be extremely useful for me in my job search. There are many fresh, creative approaches here which I haven't seen in other books, and which seem on-target for the current job environment. For example, the section, "Job Search Tactics to Use When No One's Hiring" describes how to create an "online career identity", produce networking mini-newsletters, and other ideas to help one stand out from the crowd. The examples of resumes, accomplishment stories, networking scripts, and weekly progress sheets were particularly helpful to me. Overall I found it to be comprehensive, well-organized and easy to find what I was looking for. But maybe the most important aspect for me was the optimistic tone, that if I do the right kinds of activities, then I AM going to find the job I'm looking for. I'd recommend this book to any serious job seeker.

An Excellent Guide for the Perplexed

This is a terrific book to read amidst all the gloom and doom because Myers make a few really good points: that companies are always hiring, no matter what the newspapers say, and that if you take the time to get your head straight and look at all you've accomplished to date, you can make these companies want you. He gives a lot of practical tips: establish your image as a solutions provider, not just another job seeker with his hand out. He describes all the resources you have that you might not think about, like friends, family and colleagues who value your work. He hammers the point home that you need to get out and meet people, face to face, not spending hours at the computer. And he tells you what questions you'll be asked at job interviews, and more important, how to respond to them. A lot of so-called self-help books take a rather impractical, Polyanna-ish look at the world. Myers really shows you where your power lies and how to use it to your advantage. He takes the cliche of personal empowerment and makes it real. I highly recommend his new book.

    Great Job Search book

I am a Career Coach and use Get the Job You Want as a guide for my clients in job search or career transition. Ford Myers has done an outstanding job with this book by making it practical, easy to use, and filled with career search wisdom. If you are looking for a book to guide you through your career search process, this is the one to pick up. Susan Chritton, Career Coach and author of Personal Branding for Dummies

Excellent, well organized approach to a job search campaign

Mr. Myer's book is a "must have" for the professional who is searching for a new position or looking to improve networking skills. I recommend this book highly for its thoughtful and structured approach to the search process. The exercises are very useful and the recommended "tool kit" wonderful for personal branding.

    Great career book!

I believe this book can help people learn new career hunting techniques to look for the right job in todays market. I also think the writer is helpful to his clients but is way to expensive for the average person to hire for coaching, so I recommend you go through all the exercises in the book first. The book will get you far.
