All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Originally released in 1969 as a way to divert attention from the bootleg sensation Live'r Than You'll Ever Be, Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out received a lavish reissue treatment 40 years later, expanded to a three-CD/one-DVD set complete with a thick accompanying booklet. Instead of adding that original boot as a bonus, this anniversary edition fills out the November 1969 Madison Square Garden concert that provided the basis for the original LP, adding an EP's worth of unreleased Stones tracks from the show plus the opening sets by B.B. King and Ike & Tina Turner, along with a DVD of live and behind-the-scenes footage. All the unearthed Stones material is strong -- ...

All the unearthed Stones material is strong -- particularly the pair of acoustic numbers, "Prodigal Son" and "You Gotta Move" -- but in comparison to what made it onto the LP, they do sound like outtakes to be fair, the LP did have some minor overdubs whereas these five cuts seem to be unadorned with additions, and they're also overshadowed by the absolutely terrific opening sets. Ike & Tina were in a crowd-pleasing rock & roll covers mode, tearing through "Gimme Some Loving," "Son of a Preacher Man," "Come Together," and "Land of 1000 Dances" in addition to their trademark "Proud Mary," but B.B. serves up a condensed version of his standard set that positively smokes and is reason enough to pick up this deluxe edition.

    The Glimmer Twins revisited

If you were wondering what all the fuss was about in the year 1969, post Woodstock...this is it...The Glimmer Twins (Jagger and Richards of The Rolling Stones) at their finest (reference the unreleased tracks disc of this collection). Mick Jagger and Keith Richards take us through two riveting acoustic numbers. I hope you never doubted Mr. Richards' abilities on blues guitar. He delivers. Jagger's vocals are equally impressive. The raw sound of the subsequent electric jam also grabs your attention. The Stones always do.

A Must Have For Any Stones Fan!! Get Your Money Out and Buy Get Your Ya-Ya's Out!!

The Stones are really a blues band at heart and this remastered deluxe version of their classic 1969 Madison Square Garden show really shows their true groove. Mick and the boys sound really hip on this one with lots of great guitar, harmonica and energy on the main CD. Getting to hear the first live versions of such classics as "Prodigal Son", "Satisfaction" and "Under My Thumb" on the bonus CD IS a BONUS! Even the "warm-up" sets from B.B. King and Ike & Tina Turner included in this deluxe package capture these R&B legends early in their spectacular careers! The enclosed hardcover book is a fun read into the behind the scene happenings at this epic concert. You even can get a cool vintage Stones ringtone for your phone from a card enclosed in this set. All in a great, sturdy box. Perfect gift for that hard-to-please Stones fan!!

    I Can't Review This Item for B&N

I can't review this for B&N because I ended up not buying the item from B&N. Why? Because, as usual, there was a delay in shipping.

    I Also Recommend:

    Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out

The Stones were frightening to some during the early part of their career. The unreleased acoustic audio/video from this collection proves that they had a repoir with their audience. Keith Richards' mastery of the acoustic guitar is nothing less than awe inspiring and indeed frightening when compared to the Blues greats (starting with Robert Johnson who sold his soul to the devil at a crossroads on the Mississippi Delta). Jagger's blues vocals are swaggering and natural. They are unequaled - even the imitation - by any one since.
