Great resource for students considering an IT Career

I have used this book for a couple of semesters in the EXPLORING IT CAREERS course that I teach at a California Community College, and my students have consistently found the book most useful. It is current, applicable, and to the point, and I sincerely hope that the author will update the book and its content every few years to keep it that way.

    So much great information!

I am thinking of going into another direction in my IT career, and this book really gave me some great insight to some different careers and some ideas of where would be a good place to relocate, according to salary and median house price. The depth that Leslie Goff goes into for the different careers is just enough and reading the interviews of the different professionals is really informative. I've often wondered what some of the different job titles are, and now I know and I know if I would be interested in them (the sections on 'Is This Position For You?' is really helpful). This book is a must if you are just starting out in IT or thinking of changing your job in IT.

    In high gear that is....!

Quite a good book whether you are an IT professional or are thinking about embarking on an IT career. The book is well thought out, designed and written so that it does not became boring. Excellent interviews with top IT people that have followed the path to IT sucess. Excellent, very relevant information about the field.

Information I Can Use, Written So I Can Read It!

Finally, a book to tell me about my career choices. I'm graduting in December and signing up for interviews for the fall semister and now I have some idea of what the different positions are! This book helped me decipher the job market, and gave some great advice on what skill set you need for an entry position and what you can work your way towards. A professor recommended it to me when I came to her with questions about different jobs in IT; I know it will be incredably helpful in the upcoming semister and in years to come. This is great reference material!

    Great Advice!

This book offers great advice to the seasoned professional who is trying to improve his position and to the person just starting out. This gave me some ideas about where I want my career to go and how to get it there. I've been working for years, but had no goals set. Now, I've got goals and a path set out to attain those goals. Thanks, for all the advice and a reference book that doesn't read like a reference book. It's interesting and understandable.
