All Music Guide - Johnny Loftus
Getting Away with Murder offers Papa Roach fans more of the California combo's hard-hitting rage rock. Jacoby Shaddix the name change stands and crew have moved fully away from the rap rock blip that put them on the radar around the turn of the century. But they haven't lost their amplified intensity, nor the obsession with depressing, vaguely S&M-ish lyrics. Example: "I'm a glutton for your punishment/You're the master/And I'm waiting for disaster" Production from Howard Benson and the mixing of Chris Lord-Alge ensure a crushingly compressed, radio-ready juggernaut, and the title track doesn't disappoint in that department. "Be Free" is also a standout, moving slightly away from the usual heavy mid-tempo sound for a scathing exploration of the ravages of alcoholism on Shaddix' tortured psyche. Fans of the Roach will certainly enjoy the loud, blustery Getting Away With Murder, even if it's not necessarily helping this fluxing genre through its growing pains.

    Amazing Album!

Papa Roach's latest cd, "Getting Away With Murder," is the best album of the year! I loved their first cd "Infest." "Lovehatetradegy" was good but not as great as "Infest." "GAWM" is as good as "Infest" if not BETTER. Here's a breakdown of the songs: Blood- 10/10 Favorite song on the album. Everything about this song is amazing. Not Listening- 9/10 Very good. Stop Looking, Start Seeing- 9/10- Another great track. Take Me- 10/10 Probably my second favorite, just a great track. Getting Away With Murder- 10/10 Great song. Be Free- 8/10 Very good but not up there with some other songs. Done With You- 9/10 Really good song. Scars- 10/10 AMAZING. Great choice for next single. Sometimes- 10/10 Another great song. Starts off slow then the screaming starts. Blanket of Fear- 8/10 Again, not up to par with the rest of the tracks. Still a very good song. Tyranny of Normality- 9/10 Great song. Do or Die- 9/10 Best way to end the album. "It's never to late to live your life, the time is now, it's do or die." Buy the album NOW, you will not regret it! In my opinion, no other albums of 2004 even come close! BUY GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER!

A Refreshing and Melodic Side of P-Roach that rocks better than ever.

And by "melodic" I do not mean soft. This album fits together much better than the unpopular Lovehatetragedy, and is better written than Infest. This album is proof that the band has grown as a whole, the songwriting is better, Jacoby can actually sing, and they have used melody to their advantage in the same way that the Deftones used it in Around the Fur. I guess what is best about this album is that all of the signature guitar riffs that P-Roach likes to put in their songs are still there, but while the lyrics indicate angst aimed at various areas, the tunes are not so weighed down with negative energy. One of the problems with Lovehatetragedy was that the energy was, for the most part, negative, and you didn't really want to listen to it to jump up and down and get rowdy - instead the album played better when you were walking in the rain and feeling like c**p. This album will be excellent to listen to at a rock concert. It will also be more mainstream. The single out right now (the title track) is obviously to lure in the hardcore P-Roach fans, but look for their next single, "Scars", to attract a more mainstream audience like the MTV crowd. In sum, the album sounds very much like if you able to combine the best aspects of Infest and Lovehatetragedy. A must-buy.

    Something different and fresh

With all the bland rock acts out there, it's nice to be able to still find heavy rock acts on the shelves without having to hear Cookie Monster vocals or high whiny voices complaining about how bad their love life is. Papa Roach sing about real life problems and speak in a language we can all understand. "Getting Away With Murder" was the lead single and is a great song that gets crowds jumping live. "Done With You"'s lyrics, while about alcohol, can also be applied to any situation you're in that you just want to get out of (which we can all relate to). I would take up your whole day reviewing this CD if I could, but I'll just sum it up as this: If you were a Papa Roach fan before, expect a new fresh sound but still rocking hard as usual. If you weren't a fan before- check it out because they've gone in a new direction you might like.

    Wonderful CD

This is the first Papa Roach cd I've heard, and it rocks! It's tied between Green Day's old cds, and System of a Down, for sure. I love the lyrics, and the songs are beautiful. I love Papa Roach a lot.

    GAWM rocks!

GAWM is awesome! Some songs are a little harder than before and some songs are a little slower than before, but they still did a great job. At first, with the slow songs, you might think "What the heck is this?" But once the song starts going, Jacoby doesn't disappoint. The band plays great too. GAWM (#4) the actual song, Scars (#8), Sometimes (#9), and Not Listening (#2) are some of the better songs. It's definately worth buying.

    Simply Amazing

Simply the best. This cd has everything you want in a cd. Awesome music, good beats, amazing lyrics, and sensational group work. The men of Papa Roach worked long and hard on this album to get it perfect, and it shows. This is MUST for any music lover. You'll sing along to it for hours on end! I know I do.

    New Direction, Great Sound

This album is a complete departure from their previous efforts, but if you are fan you will definately not be dissappointed. This cd has more of a straight up rock and roll sound, with loud guitars and catchy melodies, each song can stand alone as a single. It definatley nice to hear an album that is not full of 'filler' songs. Best Tracks are: Blood, Take Me, Blanket of Fear, and Tyranny of Normality.
