Masturbation is like tuning a radio—you don’t know what frequencies you’ll enjoy until you play with the knobs. Masturbation has a complicated stigma attached to it; everybody is doing it, but not everybody talks about it. Some were told that touching oneself would cause cute kittens to die, some were told masturbation led blindness. Getting Off: A Woman's Guide to Masturbation is here to debunk those masturbation myths, and reinforce the truth.

Masturbation is a totally natural and normal way for women to connect with and find pleasure in their bodies.

Fun, informative, and illustrated, Getting Off provides women with a wealth of masturbation knowledge—its history, the mechanics of it, the joys of sexy toys—plus clear, concise tips on getting off.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal

A 2003 Australian study outed via New Scientistand even Doonesbury implied that men's regular orgasms-coupled or solo-could discourage prostate cancer. Women, too, stand to benefit from ménage à moi with better sexual self-knowledge as well as discovering techniques that work alone or with a partner. This contemporary blend of pep talk, how-tos, solid information about sex toys, scientific details, and sociohistorical perspectives aims to equalize the gender payoff. References anchor the facts and statistics, plus an excellent resource list rounds out the volume. Degreed in sex education, Waxman writes sex-advice columns for three magazines and interned in New York's femina-friendly sex shop Babeland. The scientific, historical, and cultural background takes this beyond Sadie Allison's Tickle Your Fancy, which nonetheless ranks high as a manual owing to better illustrations. The classic for both sexes is Betty Dodson's Sex for One, with Dodson's exquisite drawings. Recommended nonmanuals include this reviewer's The Big Book of Masturbationand the more scholarly Thomas Laqueur's Solitary Sex: A Cultural History of Masturbation. Recommended for public libraries.

    I love getting off

There I said it. a great book for beginners, and a book that can teach others something new. I love Molly Crabapple's illustrations and Jamye has an easy to read writing style that works well for anybody curious about female sexuality. It's long, but you don't have to read it all to learn something new.
