Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

“A tribute to and a tool for the geyser gazers. . . . Any visitor to Yellowstone for whom geysers carry an appeal at all needs the guide. “
Scientific American

“I don't own a single guidebook to the geysers. I’ve never even thought about buying one. I've never been tempted to consult one while ambling through Yellowstone National Park. But Scott Bryans field guide-now in its fourth edition- has me wondering if it’s not time to reconsider. Geysers of Yellowstone tells the story of more than 700 springs, geysers, steam vents and fumaroles in the park. And in Bryan's naturalist-former park ranger hands, the stories are fascinating, hitting on the history, geography, and science of Yellowstone's geothermal phenomena. He's done pretty much all the work for us. There are maps, directions, descriptions, cautionary notes, photographs, you name it. All that's left is to grab the guidebook, stuff it in a backpack, and head for hot water.”
Sherry Devlin, The Missoulian

    Clearwaters Choice~Prologue

The queen struggled in her nest. Hushed voices were coming from all over. "Do you think she will be alright? " A think tabby tom spoke, his voice cracked by many ages "I doubt it Pinefrost. Having kits with a medicene cat? She will be lucky if Halfstar lets her spend the night. " Pinefrost began to speak but was cut short by the queen. The first kit was coming. The elders began to speek again. "Whitecloud, I don't think Halfstar would ever do that. Its not the kits fault that Silvermoon and Duskfur decided to fall in love." Whitecloud nodded in agreement. The first kit had come out, a little gray tom. The medicene cat was hurrying to the queen with herbs. He spoke, his voice thick with worry. "Oh Silvermoon, hes beautiful. I hope nothing goes wrong." This was his first kitting. Then the queen spoke "Duskfur, don't worry. I am sure Halfstar would never cast us out. He looks just like you." She said with a purr. Two more kits came out, a pretty white kit, and a thick furred silver kit. "Well done! Three healthy kits." The medicene cat purred. But the elder spoke again. "Wrong. Two healthy kits." She said and flicked her tail to the tom who was lying on his side, his flank not moving. The medicene cat remained speechless, his eyes screaming with pain. The cats in the nursery remained silent as the silence of the night was broken by the erie wail of a queen grieving for her lost kit.
