Ghetto Luv May Be Too Ghetto
Reesie remembers the day that she first bumped into Caelin a.k.a. Lay Lay. His fine frame and the way he automatically made her his ghetto princess was enough to sweep her off her feet. Will Reesie's landing plant her in his arms or in front of his gun? The apple doesn't fall far from the tree with Mya. Following in her mother's footsteps, Mya can be loose when it comes to men and naïve when it comes to the streets. Will her girls be able to break her family cycle or will Mya land the women in a compromising position? Libra is the finest one out the group. Her looks and ghetto demeanor attracts some of the wealthiest ballers and some of the greediest haters. She remembers to keep her friends close and her enemies closer, or is it too late? Mary L. Wilson gives you a quick and detailed read about the streets of the Lou. Whether it's hustling, getting females or laying down the steel, you do not mess with either men or women without a major problem. Having lived in St. Louis for a few years and now being back in my hometown of Chicago, it is sooo hard to believe that whether you are in 'the county,' north side or east side (the more diverse areas) that they are doing big things like going to the liquor store and just stomping females and leaving scott free or pulling out your gun and threatening another female at the bar and everyone is just like 'oh okay' and continue getting their drink on. Hey, okay, I know that everybody wants to represent their 'hood' to make it seem like it is the hardest of the hard. Getting back to the actual book, the slang was almost to the point of unbearable and ultimately got old after the fifth page. I love to hear our people talk, but come on now, eventually you have to say a word that is actually in Webster's dictionary. Mary has a great personality (I along with Ms. Toni actually met her at an R. Kelly concert in St. Louis) but Ghetto Luv didn't have any. 2.5 stars
