Ghetto Postage [Explicit Lyrics]

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble
Master P. is one of the hardest working men in the entertainment industry. Somehow he finds time to run his No Limit Records empire, to direct and star in several feature films including I Got the Hook-up, and to produce discs for both himself and No Limit artists such as Silkk tha Shocker and C-Murder. On the heels of 1999's Only God Can Judge Me comes Ghetto Postage, an epic-length catalogue of songs that stay true to the hustlin' lifestyle P. loves to promote. As one of the progenitors of Southern rap, P. packs Postage with several rallying tracks in the tradition of the classic "Make Em Say Uhh," such as the pulsing "Doo Rags," the electro-beat accented "Golds in They Mouth," and the pounding "Still Ballin'." ...

On the heels of 1999's Only God Can Judge Me comes Ghetto Postage, an epic-length catalogue of songs that stay true to the hustlin' lifestyle P. loves to promote. As one of the progenitors of Southern rap, P. packs Postage with several rallying tracks in the tradition of the classic "Make Em Say Uhh," such as the pulsing "Doo Rags," the electro-beat accented "Golds in They Mouth," and the pounding "Still Ballin'." P.'s baby brother Silkk tha Shocker chimes in on "Bout Dat," a syncopated tribute to the good life, while Snoop Dogg puts his canine stamp on the funky, West Coast-influenced "Poppin' Them Collars." On the latter track, P. turns the tables on Eminem with the inspired verse "I'm the black Slim Shady/So don't try to play me/Turn this 6 to a Bentley/And drive 'em crazy!" Providing a break from the album's gangsta mood are guest vocals from Tamar Braxton on the ballad-esque "My Babooski" and Erica Fox on the lighthearted "Soulja Boo." As a whole, however, Ghetto Postage delivers the mix of booty-shaking, thugged-out rap we've come to expect from No Limit's original soldier. Abby Addis
All Music Guide - Jason Birchmeier
Ghetto Postage is a step up from Master P's previous album, Only God Can Judge Me 1999, though certainly it's still less than great. As is the case with most No Limit albums, there's a long list of tracks, one short of two dozen in this case, and while many of them fall flat, there is a handful of standouts, in this case "Bout Dat" and "Souljas" above all. Master P is not without his critics, and rightfully so, but Ghetto Postage is a lighter album than some of his past ones, especially the exploitation of his early work, and consequently it presents him as a more likable person. This doesn't necessarily make for good music, but it's one of the album's nicer qualities.
