More than anything, Will wishes he didn't have the rare ability to communicate with the dead, especially the former mean girl of Groundsboro High. He's not filling out any volunteer forms to help her cross to the other side, though it would bring him some welcome peace and quiet. After being killed in school bus accident Alona is trapped on earth with no where to go. She goes back to school looking for answers, snooping around. She notice then that none of the students are wearing the arms bands that signify her death and her former boyfriend is now hooking up with her best friend! Flustered she walkaways angry at the world and way she ended up here.
Enter Will. A loner in the school who everybody ignores. As Will is walking in the school he catches Alone walking around angry and laughs at her. Big Mistake. This catches Alona's eyes and know that he can see her. Now she decides to follow him around until he agrees to help her. They end up making a deal in which Alona will take care of the other spirits in the school who try to talk to Will as well. In this process, Alona declares herself his spirit guide, helping him with whomever in stuck on the earth plane. Together Alona and Will discover a big secret that Will's friend is hiding. Will they get there in time to stop her?
Super funny. I love Will. His quick wittiness and smart remarks had me laughing. Although he seem the type of kid to be trouble, when in fact he was not. I love how Will was able to harbor his dark secret. He went on for years playing the crazy cards and then he decides it is enough running for him and time to confront the issue. His mother, Julia is a strong women. I love how she stood up for her son when no one else would. When everyone wanted to just dump in the crazy house his mother was there for him, fierce and protecting her child.
I like how Alona's character wasn't all it appeared to be. She may have been pretty and popular at school but at home was a different story. Just like the rest of the student body, Alona had problems at home. She just put on this facade being mean to everyone, being little miss perfect. I was glad to read that she does realize her mistakes of the way she was treating others. Alona and Will made a great team helping the other spirits. I was disappointed at the romance. I was glad that there was spark between these two, but to kiss? Come on.
Stacey did a great job writing this book. It was a simple, easy read. Her characters and their feelings felt real while reading this. I loved being emotionally pulled around. The scene with Alona's mother asking for forgiveness had me in tears. It is that in which we loose something that we treasure it the most. Stacey Kade wrote a magnificent book with a plot that enchanted me.

It's cute, but not annoying. It also has just enough of a serious side that really gives the story a backbone. It's dual narrative, which I've really liked in recent books. Alona surprised me as a character. It just goes to show you that even the most put together girl as serious issues just like everyone else. I liked watching her accept her fate and really take charge of things. Will was great as well. He was just enough of the opposite of Alona to make the story work. And his deeper issues were an interesting moral story that just added to the book. I liked how the two gradually opened up to each other. I think there's room for a sequel, and would love to see were it goes.
Overall, a fun book that's also got a serious side. I would recommend this to anyone who likes YA, summery reads, etc. I really enjoyed this one!

Alona was a typical popular cheeleader: perfect, beautiful and self absorbed. As you start reading, though, you see a different side to the dead Homecoming Queen. You see that her home life wasn't perfect. you see that her bes friend is hooking up with her boyfriend, and has been long before she was dead. but most of all, you see her growing feeling for Will, the unpopular goth and the only one who can see e her. He starts helping her, and soon enough the feeling is mutal. Willl was very cute and weet from the beggining, and only got more likable as it went on.
The Ghost and the Goth was a really fun novel. It had a couple flaws, bt none that couldn't be ignored or made it any less enjoyable. Even though I read it a while back, it would be a good summer read.

Since for one, it reminds me of summer, a season that I wish would just get here already; and for two, the two people on the front definitely look like what I imagined Alona and Will to look like, which is cool.
Anyway, getting to the review aspect of this, I'm not really sure to what to say about this one. Since on one side I really enjoyed it, but on the other I've seen stories done before like this and done better. So pretty much I'll say that The Ghost and the Goth was a solid good read, but far from being a rock-your-socks excellent book that you simply can't get enough of. Though, with saying that, The Ghost and the Goth was overall a fun filled and hilarious look at what happens when you mix a ghost and a Goth together!
The characters were ones that took a while to like, but once you got past the first half of the book they kept becoming more and more likable and finally characters that I ended up loving even with the bad sides to them. Alona at first was someone who while was intriguing because of the past she would only tell slight clues about, she was stuck up and full off herself, but as mentioned above, once I got past the negative parts of her character, she become someone that I admired for her snark and her willingness to help Will. Will I pretty much I always liked, but their were still aspects of him that got on my nerves.
At first look the premise of The Ghost and the Goth sounds fabulous and while it was, the execution wasn't nearly up to par as I would've liked it to have been. Since tied together with a slightly awkward beginning that I felt was trying to hard to be cool and a slow pace for the first half, I have to admit I was a wee bit disappointed. Luckily, as I got further in, everything feel into place and made The Ghost and The Goth a pretty decent read, and showed that Stacy Kade has promise!
And the ending! Oh, how I'm dying to read the sequel now!
Overall, The Ghost and the Goth was overall a fun filled and hilarious look at what happens when you mix a ghost and a Goth together! And while The Ghost and the Goth does have some negative points, it's still a read I highly suggest you pick up just because of the mild half, which was great, and the promise that it showed that this series will turn into something brilliant!

Seriously, who would ever think that breezy writing could feel so refreshing. The Ghost and the Goth was a breeze, literally. It could be one of those romantic comedy movies taken place in high school and the cover backs up that statement as much as anything else. I enjoyed reading this book even though it didn't have much depth that captures a readers attention. But thats not so much of a problem. Sometimes I'd read those books with a lighter plot like this rather than the complicated ones that requires too much thinking and predicting.
The book was very vibrant, lively with a gleaming radiance. It was written in Will and Alona's perspective, which I found confusing at times, especially for someone who is used to reading books in one perspective. The characters were distinctly different and its hard to hate either Will or Alona, even though Alona was one of those perky, shallow, popular kids who bully harmless kids for sport.
The story progressed rather quickly, during which a freaky ghost comes in and the usual disagreements between the characters are inputted. The Ghost and the Goth is one of the most smooth books I've ever read. It was funny, uplifting with the most hilarious and somewhat shallow characters that you can't help but have a love-hate relationship with. The biggest highlight = The popular girl and the goth? Really?! A definite page-turner that is guaranteed to keep you occupied for a day.

After reading the summary of it, I quickly got the book...and absolutely loved it! The story is about Alona Dare, the sterotypical queen bee whom everyone reading the story would immediately recognize as the arrogant, self-centered, cold-hearted cheerleader. Yes, we all know the sterotype. But when Alona is hit by a school bus full of "band geeks" (which irks Alona to no end) the homecoming queen's days of ruling the school are through. Alona then goes on to do what most ghosts seem to do...go see their own funeral. During this Alona is pleased by the amount of people mourning her...but she's in for a shock. When she returns to the school, she sees that, in fact, no one is mourning her. Her best friend has even taken over her boyfriend, making out with him in the hall. Yes, karma gave the ice-queen a new look on school. But just as Alona is about to have a major break-down she sees Will Killian, a gothic social nobody, who is looking straight at her and laughing. It doesn't take Alona long to put two and two together and figure out that Will can see her. And here is where the book gets good. It's a new take on cheerleader-and-bad-boy. Will, who thinks Alona is getting exactly what she deserves has secretly been harboring a crush on her since the sixth grade. And Alona is about to see that maybe popularity isn't everything and that the social outcasts may be more true than the group she hung out with. Aside from their relevations, the two are presented with many challenges, including keeping Alona from vanishing (not moving on, just evaporating), dealing with a ghost that can harm both Will and Alona, attempts to get Will confined and much more. The subject may not be a new one, but the story was cute, humorous, and has left me waiting for Queen of the Dead, the sequel to the Ghost and the Goth. All in all, I recommend this to all paranormal romance lovers!

But when she doesn't pay attention to where she is going, she gets hit by a school bus - and her days of ruling the school are over.
But when she keeps waking up in the place where she died, she knows something is wrong.
The only person who can hear her, besides the other dead people hanging around, is Will Killian, a guy she would never have thought twice about in her former life. Only Will wants nothing to do with the dead, including her. The dead make too much noise and want him to help with unresolved issues. Plus, he looks crazy talking to them.
But Alona wants his help to get to where she is supposed to be going. Working together, can they help each other?
This book had me from the very beginning. This was a mostly light (although there were a few darkish aspects), fun book. The writing had me laughing often.
Alona is the girl you want to hate. Selfish, bratty, and thinks she rules the school. But for some reason, I loved her. I loved her comments and her witty remarks. And Will wasn't bad, either. I felt bad for him and the way his therapist treated him.
I definitely liked the way the story ended. I think it wrapped up well and happy. And I can't wait to see what's going to happen next in the sequel, QUEEN OF THE DEAD. I'm hooked!

I read and ARC of this and enjoyed every moment of it!
It is about a somewhat stereotypical popular girl who dies suddenly and becomes a ghost and a somewhat anti-social boy who is now the only one who can see her.
While some of the story is rather simpistic, it is more than made up for by the refreshing realism, sarcasm, and wit of the dialogue and prose. I also really liked how Kade doesn't beat you over the head with the romance portion. In fact, she realistically and deftly handles all the various types of (mostly somewhat delightfully dysfunctional) relationships within her book instead of the usual eye-roll-inducing melodrama or over-the-top quirkiness. It's def. a really fun read!

Stacey Kade is a great wirter she just has a way with words. The cover wa the first thing that cought my eye. It looks so funny. I finished it in 2 days i could not put it down. IF your looking for a good read this is the book for you!!!!!

I picked this book up at the Library where my kids were doing a craft over the summer break. I had read to chapter 4 then decided I couldn't put it down. I read this book in two days and it was great. I would recommend this book for girls who are teens and up. I am 41 and couldn't put it down. A book that will have you laughing through out it. I also recommend the second one as well, the Queen of the Dead, read it in a day these you won't want to put down.
