    I Also Recommend:

Another fun entry in this series. I am enjoying the development of background story of the "ghost" character's. Going back in time with his world adds to my enjoyment of the story. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

It is fun to explore the town and the people associated with the bookstore. I enjoy books that tell me about places I have never been -- in my case -- the Eastern US. While this is not a travel log, it does talk about an area and type of town I am not familier with.

    Another Entertaining Ghost!

Alice Kimberly has written another great book in her series. The interplay between her characters just gets better. The mixing of past and present mysteries, and the intertwining of the two is great. A great read for anyone, even hard-boiled fans. I like the relationship between Penelope and Jack.

    Very cute mystery story

Very entertaining story. The ghost premise is an interesting spin on the traditional cozy mystery.

    I Also Recommend:

If you're into new ideas for a mystery, this one's for you.

Penelope is the usual type of person, in a usual type of town. There are a lot of writers doing amateur sleuths, even some who have professional help along the way. But how many have professional help from a man who's been dead for 50 years?
This one in the series is different, because we have a ghost trying to find another ghost. Penelope is up to her usual tricks, trying to solve crimes on her own. She always has a vested interest in solving the crime even if she isn't the official target.
It is fun to see the entire town try to help her out. This shows that small towns do butt into everyone's business. I did miss her kid not being in this one much though, because the comments Jack makes about Spenser is always fun to watch.
The writing is well done as usual. The characters grow more each time a new book comes out. I am starting to feel like they are family to me. The setting descriptions are pretty pat, and I would like to see Penelope move out of her comfort zone a bit, especially now that Jack can leave the storefront with her.
What I am waiting for is someone else to find out about Jack. That would be an interesting twist in the series.

    delightful paranormal cozy noir

When Penelope McClure¿s husband committed suicide, she packed up their things and with their young son moved to Quindicott, Rhode island where she bought into Buy the Book bookstore. The building comes equipped with the ghost of Jack Shepard, who was murdered there in the 1940s and so can¿t leave the premises unless Pen takes his buffalo nickel with him; and then he can only go where Pen goes. From believing he was a hallucination, Pen realizes she has romantic feelings for him although they can only meet i+n her dreams.

Delivering books to the reclusive Miss Todd, Pen notices her letter carrier Seymour Tarnish hurrying from there with a red stain on his shirt. At the Todd mansion, Pen finds Miss Todd dead. Pen calls the police who suspect Seymour has something to do with the homicide as he had opportunity since he could enter her home with the mail; Seymour swears Miss Todd gave him permission; the red spot turns out to be ketchup to Pen¿s mixed feelings as she is happy that Seymour seems innocent and a bit mortified it was not blood. He remains the prime suspect so Pen and Jack who believe he is innocent investigate those who would inherit the estate.

Jack is molded from the Philip Marlow school of hard boiled sleuths while Pen is a proper lady similar to Mrs. Muir of the Ghost film fame. This off beat pairing turns into an electrifying chemical combo that leads to a stand out series whose latest entry like its predecessors ¿The Ghost and ¿¿ tales is a delightful paranormal cozy noir; an apt description of the lead couple as well. Alice Kimberly provides a haunting whodunit.
