Overview

The perfect gift for fans of Stephen King and John Mellencamp—the libretto of their acclaimed Southern Gothic supernatural musical Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, with hand-written notes on the development of the play, plus two CDs and a DVD featuring the songs and interviews with Stephen King, John Mellencamp, and Musical Director, T Bone Burnett.

Set in the tiny town of Lake Belle Reve, Mississippi, the Ghost Brothers’ story centers on two sets of brothers: the ghosts of Jack and Andy, dead in an apparent murder/suicide, and their nephews, the living Frank and Drake, who seem to be headed toward the same downward spiral as their uncles. Joe, younger brother of Jack and Andy, father of Frank and Drake, has decided it’s time to reveal his own terrible secret at the site of the tragedy, before it’s too late.

Disappointed. First, book is NOT a hardcover. It just comes in a nice box. Second, when purchasing a DVD, I'd actually like to see a show, not the behind the scenes documentary. I waited almost a year for this, and frankly did not find it worth my money. Yes, the show will be playing in my town, but now I have to spend an additional amount of money, and it's not the original artists.

Should not have bought this (read why)...

OK, I am - what my friends call - obsessed with Stephen King. I have almost all his novels in first edition hard cover and would probably by his food shopping list if I had a chance. So, when I heard he was in a joint venture to write a musical, I jumped on it. This was AWESOME ! ! The music is great, the artists are top notch and the story is exactly what you would expect from the master of Horror. This is a true Ghost Story - and shows how those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Now here's why I shouldn't have bought this. NOW I WANT TO SEE THE SHOW ! ! The sad part is that it isn't coming anywhere NEAR where I live. The closest is about 10 hours away. With money being tight, it's just not something I can afford. I hope that it does well enough to either expand it's venue or get released to Blu-ray. There are two things that made this purchase a little disappointing (and the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars)- #1, the DVD is nothing special. You can see the same video online with a little searching. #2, IT SMELLS ! And I mean bad. The book cover is made of a fake leather that has this nasty plastic odor - I had to read it outside because I was getting a headache. And the smell lingered after an hour (I opened it in the house and an hour later my wife still smelled it). So if you plan to read the story - do it in a well ventilated area. But it is a must read.
