But Midnight isn't ready to go anywhere just yet, so he comes back as a ghost cat to help her track down his killer. Clearly there is a bond between Christy and Midnight that is too strong to be broken by something as trivial as death.

Slightly Forced & Falls Short (2.5 Stars)

I am a fan of Jessica Beck/ Casey Mayers/ Chris Cavender and all the other pen nameds used by this author. I was excited to start a new series... anxious to see how my first non-food related cozy mystery would be like. I found the story to be a quick read, likable characters and had a fairly interesting motive build.... unfortunately, I feel the story falls short of wrapping up a few loose ends. One in particular has been on my mind all day... "heart of Midnight". There is an obvious literal meaning of this clue... it clearly hold the information the killer was searching for throught the story... yet we do not get the payoff... the story abrubtly ends the killers backstory/motive at the climatic scene... never putting the pieces of the puzzle together to reveal "the why". I am left hanging and wondering what was the proof the victim had.... why wasnt the "heart of Midnight" disected to find the victims final puzzle piece?

PS Just started book two in this series... already one piece of detail that is mentioned in this book 1 is referenced incorrectly. Two years not Five. I hope this greats better.
