Overview

Everybody dies. Nobody leaves.

After narrowly surviving a near-fatal shooting, Portland detective Myron Vale wakes with a bullet still lodged in his brain, a headache to end all headaches, and a terrible side effect that radically transforms his world for the worse: He sees ghosts. Lots of them.

By some estimates, a hundred billion people have lived and died before anyone alive today was even born. For Myron, they're all still here. That's not even his biggest problem. No matter how hard he tries, he can't tell the living from the dead.

Despite this, Myron manages to piece together something of a life as a private investigator specializing in helping people on both sides of the great divide - until a stunning blonde beauty walks into his office needing help finding her husband. Myron wants no part of the case until he sees the man's picture . . . and instantly his carefully reconstructed life begins to unravel.

"The Sixth Sense meets Spenser For Hire in Scott William Carter's magnificent Ghost Detective."- Michael J. Totten, author of Taken

"Scott is one of those rare writers who can and does cross genres, and do it well. You never know what kind of story you'll get from him, but you do know that it'll be good." - Kristine Kathryn Rusch, Hugo award-winning author of The Disappeared

Unusual premise for a story - detective can see ghosts, and is often hired by them to solve mysteries, recover money, and so on. The main character is very likeable, Elvis makes an appearance, and it is laugh-out-loud funny in many parts. There is one character who leaves at the end of the book, and I really hope if there are other books in this series this character doesn't come back, as she is obnoxious and, having served her purpose in relation to the main character, would add nothing to future books. Great read, though!

A sultry blonde walks into a detective's office. Big deal, seen it a million times, right? Wrong! THE GHOST DETECTIVE ranks as one of the most ingenious departures from the norm I've seen in a long time. It begins with a unique concept and runs with it, blending the best of detective and fantastic fiction in the process. I've always enjoyed Scott William Carter's work, but THE GHOST DETECTIVE takes my admiration to a whole new level. I loved this book

-The Sixth Sense meets Spenser For Hire- review above - totally accurate. The detective story was good – murder investigation with sufficient twists/ turns/ hints, no heavy violence. Ex-cop still learning the parameters of his new ability – the result of a gunshot to the head. Plus ghosts that both help and hinder, creating several subplots, including family members, that are alternately humorous and intensely revealing. Very likeable main character, good guy with good instincts trying to adjust to uncontrollable circumstances. I will read further books in the series.

Blending a classic noir detective story with billions of unpredictable ghosts is just genius. This book really has it all. Ghosts of all kinds provide texture and comic relief while the great detective hero Myron Vale struggles with his marriage, his finances, his health and life in general. It doesnt read like a supernatural scifi novel... it is definitely a detective story with an unusual twist. On to the next one!!! ?...wjj

VERY intriguing story line, can't wait to experience more of it! I was fortunate to stumble across GHOST DETECTIVE and I devoured it as a pure delight. Next I found the "prequel" THE HAUNTED BREADBOX, and I just finished THE GHOST WHO SAID GOODBYE (Myron Vale #2). What a wonderful premise, plot lines full of twists, turns, surprises, and plenty of action and suspense. The author doesn't disappoint, and I can only hope more of this series will show up soon. The Myron Vale character has endeared himself in my mind and I can't wait to see what awaits him.

I enjoyed the concept of a ghost detective and the types of cases that would come his way . At times it took a while to figure out if he was in the past or present , though.
