...a fabulous cornucopia of photographs, from 19th-century daguerreotypes of hysterics and early prison mug shots to avant-garde and contemporary celebrity portraits. The accompanying text persuasively argues that what we look for in a face has changed enormously over the years.

    Amazing

Definitely a must read. It's complexity may scare away some people, as the philosophical questions demand further contemplation. Consider watching the movie first as an introduction to Masamune Shirow's world.

One of the BEST Manga ever

If you have seen the anime, then you have an basic understanding of the plot an characters. However, I recommend this over the anime. The anime contains only a 1/4 of the material in the manga. There is a lot more to the story that you miss. The overwhelming scope of the book requires at least a second read (possibly a third) to catch everything and gain a good understanding. The manga is one of the smartest, well-written and beautifully drawn literary pieces that has been published. Don't miss the typical goofy manga-like expressions. They add a bit of levity, and shows that even serious stories can have a bit of tounge in cheek. Everything that Shirow does is instant gold. This is a must-have in any fanboy or fangirl's library.
