Meet the Author

Andrew Nette is a writer based in Melbourne, Australia, with a fascination for crime fiction and film, obscure pulp novels and all things Asian.

He lived in Southeast Asia for six years in the nineties, based in Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. During that time he worked as a journalist, and as a communications consultant for the United Nations and a number of non-government organisations.

He has since travelled frequently in Asia and lived in Phnom Penh with his family for a year in 2008, where he wrote for the international news wire, Inter Press Service, and worked on a European television documentary on the international tribunal into the crimes committed by the Khmer Rouge.

Andrew is also one of the founders of Crime Factory Publications, a Melbourne-based small press specialising in crime fiction, and helps edit Crime Factory, its on-line magazine, which appears four times a year. He is also one of the editors of Crime Factory Publication’s second book, Crime Factory: Hard Labour, an anthology of short Australian crime fiction, due for release later in 2012.

    Fascinating Read

    Ghost Money is the first full length work I've read by Andrew Nette and I found it to be a thoroughly satisfying read. There is a historical flavor to the story, which I love, as well as it being a first rate crime fiction. A story within a story.

    Nette does a masterful job of putting you in Cambodia, in Phnom Penh and in the rural bloody country side. You see this corner of Southeast Asia because of Nette's powerful descriptions and his terrific verbal painting of scenes. The only way you can write this vividly and real about a location, is if you've spent the time and been there, which he has.

    I felt the horror of war and war crimes, you see it, smell it and taste it. You might know the story of the terrible rein of the Khmer Rouge, might know it well like I thought I did, but you'll learn even more. All the while a suspenseful, crime story unfolds and Max Quinlan wades through it all to find a missing businessman. I was pulled into this story from the very beginning, the first page - and it never released me until the last page. I highly recommend this book. - Jim Wilsky
