Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Review
Chintz 'n China Tea Room owner Emerald O'Brien mixes the mundane complications of running a small business and coping with single parenthood with trances, Tarot readings, and seances. Emerald has been a medium since childhood and honed her psychic skills right along with her knowledge of fine china and tea. So, when a sorrowful ghost visits Emerald and pleads for help in proving she was murdered, Emerald quickly gets into the spirit of investigation. She gets the backup she needs from her two best friends (an unorthodox cop and a canny ex-model) and soon senses something special in her newly forged relationship with a friend of the murdered woman. Unfortunately, while she's dealing with the ordinary risks of trying to bring an unsuspected murderer to justice, Emerald has spiritual trouble to deal with as well. An astral nasty has tagged along with the gentle ghost who came to her for aid…and poses a terrifying threat, especially to Emerald's psychically gifted young son. Somehow, this unconventional supermom has to find a way to balance the cosmic scales while defending her family from physical and spiritual dangers and keeping the business they depend on in the black. The quirky amateur sleuth's matter-of-fact acceptance of her extraordinary circumstances adds a special charm to this exciting mystery series debut. Sue Stone

    Wonderful first of series

I really liked this book, I thought it was a wonderful beginning on a series; most definitely made me want to read more about the characters and get to know them better. Such a shame that Yasmine stopped writing it, but better to quit while she was ahead than to create something that would fizzle out and be sub par.

    Good Concept

Very disapointed, this is a book I had already read with a new cover. other than that, it's a good book, with interesting characters, and a fun premis.

    great book, like the character

im not sure what book the other customer read but it wasn't the one i did. i got around to reading the author's fiction finally (im a fan of her nonfiction books) and have to say, im not disappoint. The story is strong, i care about the characters and the book kept my interest all the way through.

    I'm Sorry to Say

That this book was horrible. Even if the book's bad, I usually make myself finish it's on general principle - I spent the money and by gosh I'm going to read it - but this one was just...unreadable. It's beyond predictible, trite, un-original, unbelievable (such as the heroine telling a newly met date the outrageous claim of seeing his friend's ghost and and it only takes him 24 hours to believe it. Argh!) I've never given a review this bad and I don't feel good about it but I don't want anyone else to waste their money. This isn't to say that the writer won't get better so don't hold this one against her. For now though, just say 'no'.
