Overview

Middle age can be murder ...

At least that’s how it seems to former crime journalist, Wilhelmina Chance, whose near-fatal accident has given her a strange side effect ... she sees ghosts.

After a messy divorce sends her fleeing back to her hometown of Mystic Notch, nestled in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Willa finds herself haunted by the tenacious ghost of the town librarian who insists Willa solve her murder.

Luckily, she has lots of help, including a quirky cast of small-town characters, the cat she’s inherited from her grandmother, and her best friend, Pepper, who claims her herbal teas can work magic.

But just when Willa thinks she’s discovered who the killer is, she finds out that things are not what they seem in Mystic Notch, and the case takes a strange turn that has Willa adding even some of her long-time friends to her suspect list.

Can Willa find the real killer in time to keep the magical balance in Mystic Notch on the side of good, or will evil prevail?

    168 pages

This 168 page story is well edited. It is cute. It reminds me of "Bewitched," the television series. Only Chance is just begining to realize her witchiness. This is a really clean, fluff type of book. It is a light hearted, fun book even though it it is a paranormal mystery. There is a very undetailed murder, with a bonk on the head and some blood splatter. There is a dab of romance, a coven of cats, some wicked brew, a Bates' hotel like mansion with some rather odd Bateses living therein. I hate to admit it, but I really enjoyed this funny, wacked out book. I found it rather spell binding. For ages 12 and up. Chick lit.

I loved this book. It pretty much has everything. A murder mystery, cats, ghosts, witchcraft all tied up with likeable characters. Willa is a strong woman who goes about investigating without being accusing or obnoxious. She has a good relationship with her sister, a group of likeable characters that appear at her shop every morning, a sweet neighbor but mysterious. I eagerly await the next.

    Two mysteries in one.

There are two mysteries in this book. One - who is the killer and two - what's going on with all the cats? One mystery gets solved and the other; well, you'll just have to wait for the sequel. If you like ghosts, cats and possibly witches, you will love this book.

    Great weekend read

I really enjoyed this book. I absolutely love cats, I have 3 myself, and i loved the relationship between Willa and Pandora. This book was a very light and entertaining read. Great for a weekend getaway, or when you need a sort of palette cleanser between heavy novels. I eagerly anticipate the next journey with Willa & Pandora!

    Good, whimsical and interesting read.

I'm always up for a good ghost story. Add a snarky, intelligent middle-aged woman and her sassy cat and I'm there. This book was a quick read but very well-written. I had never read one of Ms. Dobbs' books before and wasn't sure what to expect, but I quickly found myself engrossed in this whimsical tale of meow, murder and mystery.

Don't let the presence of a cat in the story fool you; this is not third grade reading. The author does a fine job of intertwining the mind of a cat into a human's story, with a sort of realism that will leave you wondering just what your cat is up to when she does those quirky things that cats do...

My 12 year old enjoyed this book and so did I, her 43 year old Mom.

Leighann is now on my list of favorite authors. I hope to see more from her.

Very good; cries out for a prequel.

Although this is #1 in a series, and I look forward to the next book, I found myself wishing for more backstory. There were references to a past that sounded very interesting, and I want to learn more about it.

    Great story!

Thanks to the author for writing a lovely story that doesn't require skimming through loads of filler and Xrated TMI. This story had it all. Friendship, bad guys, budding love, mystery, ghosts, and magic. New author for me... happy dance!

    Great summer read

As both a lover of cats and mystery books, this one caught my eye. It is different than I thought it would be, but really holds my attention. It is much more "supernatural" than I figured it would be, but I really like it. It is a quick and easy read and I very much enjoy it.
