    A Hauntingly Beautiful Book

There is an uncharacteristic anomoly within the sharply-focused photographs. Closer inspection reveals a diaphanous mist of mystery carefully making its way across a glowing tombstone. Welcome to Ghosts in the Cemetery II: Farther Afield which continues the pictorial journal that started with Ghosts in the Cemetery.

You do not need to see the first book to thoroughly enjoy this one, but you'll probably want to grab Ghosts in the Cemetery after looking at this one. Each book stands alone with its own set of mesmerizing pictures. Author and photographer Stuart Schneider engages and enchants the reader with individual bits of cemetery history and ghost stories interspersed in between.

This is not a book reserved just for Halloween. Rather, it is a loving tribute to the long lost art of cemetery decoration that is as forgotten as the people these grave markers were meant to memorialize.

Far from being macabre, these photographs may someday be the only recorded history that these monuments ever existed. The monuments are slowly deteriorating and may someday be lost with the passage of time if nothing is done to preserve them.

Schneider's skillful use of light and dark materialize photos of haunting [pun intended] beauty. Some of the photos are strikingly sharp and almost 3-D-like. This only emphasizes the anomalies contained within them which are the opposite. The grave-markers and tombstones glow supernaturally as if lit from within.

Displaying these books on the coffee table will intrigue both skeptics and the curious alike. Both books make excellent gifts for people interested in the occult, ghosts and/or mysterious and unexplained occurrences. It is also a great bedtime read-but leave the lights on!
