Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kirsten Shaw
In this title in the "Monster Wars" series, ghosts face witches in a battle between these spooky enchanters. O'Hearn uses the strengths and weaknesses of each "monster" to determine which would win in a battle to the death. Speed, attack style, special powers, and weaknesses are all compared and rated as it leads up to the final, hypothetical, frightful battle. Each chapter contains pictures of scenes from an array of movies and illustrations, with Moffet illustrating the final spine-chilling showdown. Not lacking in educational facts, readers will learn details about ghosts and witches, including the witch-hunts in Europe during the fifteenth century. Each chapter features frightful facts and vocabulary definitions, and the last pages include a glossary in addition to a directory leading readers to suggested resources to learn more. O'Hearn also takes the time to reassure young readers the stories contained within are "just stories." A great read that is sure to catch the attention of reluctant readers who will appreciate the action and creativity in this unearthly match up. Reviewer: Kirsten Shaw
