Overview

GFFs Rochelle, Robecca, and Venus begin to settle in at Monster High and are having a fangtastic time getting involved in the student body. Rochelle is tutoring the trolls, Robecca is blasting onto the Skulltimate Roller Maze team, and Venus is starting a compost pile with Lagoona Blue! The ghoulfriends are even recruited to help Toralei and Cleo plan the Hex Factor Talent Show.
But during Mr. Mummy's Catacombing class, the ghouls find hints of a new threat to the school. And when white cats start showing up around the Creepateria-a bad omen for monsters!-the GFFs begin to wonder if their fun is over. Is Toralei playing pranks? Or is something more sinister haunting the halls of Monster High?

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 4–6—This story centers on the friendship of three Monster High students: Venus Mcflytrap, Robecca Steam, and Rochelle Goyle. These "ghoulfriends" try to abide by the Gargoyle Code of Ethics, and Monster High is like a regular high school except with monsters, gore, and scare fests. They are very excited to be invited to join the "Frightingale Society," "an all-ghouls sorority dedicated to community service and fostering lifelong friendships among monsters," but when Robecca sees a white cat, the trio knows that the bad omen means something evil is afoot. This series takes naming to the extreme with various plays on words. There's the expression "bat on a hot tin roof," "Fearleading" rather than cheerleading, "Scarisian" instead of Parisian, etc. Characters have names such as Miss Sue Nami and say things such as "Merci boo-coup" and "fangtastique." Students take Mad Science, G-ogre-phy, and Physical Deaducation and check their iCoffins for their class schedules. The writing is fast paced, scattered, and laden with "Monster High" marketing as the author references the franchise often without context. The black-and-white animelike illustrations work well with the text.—Lisa Gieskes, Richland County Public Library, Columbia, SC

Meet the Author

Gitty Daneshvari was born in the creepy crawly yet ever so sunny city of Los Fangeles. As a young ghoul she was loquacious, curious, and freakishly fearful. Worried about everything from matted fur to aliens invading to getting stuck in an elevator, her diverse range of phobias was a most burdensome flaw. However, as she grew up and faced her fears, Gitty found they were the perfect inspiration for her defrightful middle grade series School of Fear.

Gitty currently lives in New Volt City with her spooktacularly smelly English Bulldog Harriet.
