Overview

When M.J. Holliday and the crew of her cable TV show, Ghoul Getters, venture to the haunted ruins of Dunlow Castle in Ireland, drawn by the legend of hidden treasure, they hope the road will rise up to meet them, that the wind will always be at their backs-and that the resident phantom won't push them off a cliff. If they treasure their lives, M.J. and her ghost busters need to get the drop on the menacing phantom...

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In Laurie's frantically fun, if at times cartoonish, fifth Ghost Hunter mystery (after March 2010's Ghouls Gone Wild), M.J. Holliday and the Ghoul Getters cable TV show crew face some anxious moments at Dunlow, a haunted Irish castle, especially after their producer, Peter "Gopher" Gophner, goes missing. Treacherous tides can make it tricky to reach Dunlow, which is located on an island. Another challenge is the powerful castle phantom guarding the hidden treasure of Lord Ranald Dunnyvale, who ransomed some survivors of the Spanish Armada back in the 16th century for a hefty sum. Reminiscent of Buffy the Vampire Slayer's bunch, Laurie's enthusiastic, punchy ghost busters make this paranormal series one teens can also enjoy. (Dec. 28)

    more from this reviewer

    d**mned by faint praise

I loved the first book. The last two books were difficult to read because they were not quite up to par with the previous works by this authoress. I feel cheated about Dr. Sable's removal from the series (although not surprising considered the author's opinion of him). I miss Doc and I miss the thrill from the first book. Laurie's other series is still great and enjoyable. But the changes in this story line do not seem like an improvement.
This book and the two previous were almost impossible to read to the end.
I find this sad because I like Victoria Laurie and her psychic views.

    The whole series is great!

This is the fifth book in the series. Have read all 5 books in this series and it is one of my favorites. The characters are great and entertaining. The story while not the most original (Think ghost hunters) is one of the most interesting plot lines I've read about ghost hunters. I've found no flaws with this thrilling and somewhat creepy story about a haunted castle which can only be gotten to at high tide. Haunted by a phantom which caused at least one death so far MJ and crew go up against a dangerous ghost along with a couple criminal humans thrown in. Got my mom hooked with the first book, gave the first one to a friend to try after she saw this book and thought it looked good, and gave them to my sister after she read a little of one and didn't want to give them back. Plot twists are great as always.

    LOVE HER

I am a HUGE fan of Victoria Laurie! I read her other series on a whim recently and enjoyed them so much I had to get this one too! Her characters are so much fun and make for a very enjoyable read. The plots are very thought out, but fun and funny at the same time. They are easy reads that are truely fantastic. Thank you for these books Victoria and I hope you continue to write more!!

Spirits and Ghosts and Phantoms, Oh My!

Author Victoria Laurie comes up with an intriguing story idea in "Ghouls, Ghouls, Ghouls." A haunted castle, hidden treasure, murderous phantom, and a history of tragedies befalling previous ghost- and treasure-hunters are a formula for a great mystery. The formula fell a little flat, though, as the there was no real character development and the lack of a subplot left me dizzy with the only action yo-yo-ing between only two locations. This mystery could have been better written: a few of the clues were so blatant I was screaming at the characters to wake up and realize they were inches from solving the puzzle 100 pages before the end of the book. All in all, a good Saturday afternoon read. I will definitely be waiting for the next in the series. This series has only gotten better and I can't wait to see what's up next for MJ and Gilley!

    Disappointing

I love Victoria Laurie her characters come to life for me however, this book seemed to be a "deadline - quick fill the pages" rush. There were too many I, me, and my's at the expense of the other characters. Get back to the light ghosts/heavy ghoul, not every book need be a life threatening demon. I will continue to read anything Ms. Laurie writes, but this was not my favorite.

Ghosts and demons and curses, oh my!

In this ongoing series, ghost hunters find more ghosts than they can easily manage. It is a swash-buckling romp of a paranormal tale,

A great read. Ms. Laurie delivers a great suspenseful yet fun read as with her other novels of this series. Can't wait for the next one.

Let's Put These Ghosts to Rest

This series has gotten really stale, and really stretched credulity. I really don't believe you go to the British Isles to have blueberry muffins at the B&B. I'll continue to read the Psychic Eye series, but no more of these, thanks.

    More intense than the others

The first four books were absolutely hysterical as well as good stories and fabulous characters. However, since the loss of the German boyfriend, things have gotten more serious and intense and less funny. This hasn't detracted from the writing or the plots, but the humor was what first brought me in to Victoria's writing. Since then I've also picked up her Psychic Eye series. Wonderful author.
