Children's LiteratureThis compilation of material contributed by hundreds of teachers and caregivers around the country contains over 600 center ideas in 47 categories. An introduction explains the concept and philosophy of learning centers, whether permanent or temporary and provides various ideas for organizing and keeping them running smoothly. The ideas are organized into interest areas such as transportation, science and nature, pets, sand and water, space and so on. Each center theme lists materials, steps on what to do, optional activities and related books. It is too bad the skills being practiced in each center are not listed to aid teachers in meeting the developmental needs of their students. Otherwise, the teacher, especially new teachers, must read through the activity to determine its appropriateness. Despite this, the variety of centers from such diverse contributions is inspiration for any teacher. Occasional black-and-white line drawings assist with more complicated directions. 2005, Gryphon House, Ages Adult.
