Children's LiteratureOver 600 activities divided into 24 different areas are included in this giant workbook for preschool teachers of three-year olds. Supplied by teachers from around the United States, each activity is organized using the following outline: materials, what to do, more to do, related books and related songs and poems. Not all activities include all guidelines but many do. There is a short introduction that discusses intended developmental milestones for three-year-olds as well as guidelines on how to use the book. The 24 activities areas include art, language, music and movement, sand and water, as well as science and nature, snacks and cooking and transitions. While most activities seem appropriate, there's no mention that activities should be focused on small groups of three-year olds rather than the class as a whole. In fact, mentioning the developmental area being practiced within each activity reminds teachers that they are doing more than just keeping children busy. No mention of evaluating the activity or the children's progress is mentioned. Overall, it is a nice variety of activities to inspire the new as well as veteran teacher. Some black and white illustrations are included as well as an index to activities and books. 2004, Gryphon House, Ages Adult.
