Editorial Reviews

Books Are Cool - Stephanie Dagg
This is an incredibly impressive book that grips you from the very start, where we meet Nashua who is taking part in the ceremony to receive the gift of the phoenix. It’s not until years later that she is able to pass on these items to three men, whose job it now becomes to protect the phoenix and their land from great evil. There is plenty of action, some wonderful characters and magical, atmospheric settings. Donna has created a fascinating realm.

Meet the Author

Donna Cook's passion for writing began at a tender age and has persisted throughout her life. As a reader, she enjoys a wide range of fiction from the classics to modern tales. Her criteria for a good book has less to do with genre and more to do with the quality of the writing.

After graduating college in 1995 with a strong literary background and a creative writing degree, she discovered fantasy in 2002 when the popularity of the Harry Potter books was too much for her to ignore. She fell in love with the whimsy and adventure of the genre and began working on Gift of the Phoenix shortly thereafter. Some traumatic events in her personal life pushed writing to the background for several years, but Gift of the Phoenix finally released in 2012. She released a related novella, Nashua's Choice, in April 2013.

She's currently working on the sequel to Gift of the Phoenix, as well as the next installment of the Nashua Chronicles.

She is an Arizona native recently transplanted to Boise, Idaho, where she is delighting in the change of scenery. When she's not writing she spends her time chasing the kids, exploring delicious eateries downtown, and dancing with her talented husband.

    Hang on for the Ride!

    Emily Dickinson wrote:

There is no frigate like a book,
    To take us lands away,
    Nor coursers like a page,
    Of prancing poetry."

Donna Cook grabs you by the scruff of your neck, plants you on your steed,
and tears away. Hang on and enjoy the ride! It's a trip well worth taking.

I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful romp by a new author, and highly recommend it. It is a quick read and well crafted.

I will read it again and look forward to more of her work.
