So, the truth behind circus performers is finally revealed and Liz Long has done an amazing job bringing this high tension, YA fantasy to life! GIFTED is filled with fabulous characters, a little young romance, danger, and a deadly mystery to unravel. Lucy thought it would be like going home, to somewhere she would belong, be accepted and not have to hide her gift after tragedy struck and she was a teen alone in the world. The biggest problem seems to be her talent, she is a Firestarter and feared by many of the gifted, something she is determined to change. Meeting other Firestarters helps, and soon she learns she is the most powerful of all, thanks to her late father’s same gift and guidance. Just when she makes headway, the unthinkable happens and once again people look to her as the villain. How can Lucy prove her innocence, find the killer and gain a place to fully belong? Someone is taking the gifted for their own purposes, and the entire gifted community is in danger. What Lucy uncovers is far more than who the real villain is. She learns the dark secrets of the Donovan Circus, as well as who her father really was. Along the way just to muddle her mind a little more, she finds possible romance with two young men, but can they be trusted? Looks like only Lucy can save the day, but what about her heart? Fun, frantic and refreshing, non-stop fantasy that feels real from start to finish! Liz Long had me breezing through each page, oblivious to the world around me! Could I second guess the events that were to play out? Not all of them and that is because her writing is at once engaging and completely entertaining. Next time you go to a circus, I guarantee you will be wondering about those amazing entertainers and if they are hiding a paranormal secret!

Every once in a while you need to broaden your horizons as a reader. Not only genre wise, but author wise. I think that’s why I read so many Indie authors. There are a lot of hidden gems out there people – I find them all the time. Liz Long and her Donovan Circus series is my latest. Gifted is the first book in the series and it does a wonderful job of introducing this unique world to readers. Lucy’s POV is the perfect way to do it because she’s a part of Gifted world, but has been separated from it for several years. She has a lot to learn and come to terms with – about the world she belongs to and herself. It makes the back story a lot more interesting and isn’t forced or awkward. The characters in Gifted are fun with very distinct personalities and not just filler. They all bring an extra dimension to the story and I loved them all (with the exception of the ones that I was supposed to hate ) Readers were also left wondering about the loyalties of more than one character that kept things more than interesting. There was plenty of action, twists, turns, magic, a touch of violence and just a little bit of romance… pretty much something for everyone. Gifted didn’t necessarily end in a cliff hanger, but there is definitely much more to the story. Luckily I have Burned, the next book in the series, ready and waiting. I can’t wait to see what Liz Long has in store for this group of characters. Oh, and just a little warning. If you’re not a fan of love triangles…. yeah, there is one. They don’t bother me as long as they’re not driven by teenage angst (those drive me nuts!) I know that some of my blogging buddies avoid them at all costs – so consider yourselves warned.

First thoughts after... Wow, I'm diving right into Burned tonight! How distracted did I get? From page one I was wrapped up in Lucy's world at the Donovan Circus.  Lucy gets thrown back in a world her parents wanted her to escape.  With new friends and potential enemies the book flies by.  Gabriel, he has me so confused!  I love him one minute then I want to ring his neck the next.  He's definitely the most intriguing character next to Lucy.  Keegan her second love interest you don't get to know  as well, but I was torn between the two hottie mctotties.  Her band of friends each with their own gift are supportive and fascinating and I can't wait to get to know them better.  Gifted is a story packed with fun, action and intrigue.  This is a definite must read if you enjoy the  paranormal genre.

**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review** Lucy, a firestarter, turns to her father's old friends when her mother passes. She rejoins the Donovan Circus, and tries to integrate peacefully with everyone. She instantly makes friends with her roommate Delia, and her close circle of friends. Since she is the newbie she get to start earning her keep by doing grunt work, which is no biggie for her, until one of the other circus members is found dead in the parking lot. All fingers point to Lucy, and she has no idea why or who would set her up like this. At first I thought things were going a little slow, the characters were getting to know each other, Lucy was finding herself in the middle of a love triangle, then BOOM, there's a murder. I just couldn't stop reading after that, I just kept turning the pages, then there is deceit! *Gasps* NO!! It can't be!!! Why would he do that?! I really liked him! I was so mad! Then all hell breaks loose or as I like to say the sh*t hits the fan. Loyalties are tested and fighting ensues, but in the end, is it over?  OMG!! I loved it! Totally awesome and I cannot wait to read more about the Donovan Circus and who Lucy will choose?

Gifted is the first Donovan Circus Novel by Liz Long. This story had humor, action, romance, mystery... everything I like to find in a story. Lucy is a wonderful character. She's strong and independent with a funny temper. She is looking for a sense of family, and when she finds it she is loyal to a fault. Her character is well built, and you feel like you really know who she is as a person. Her love interests, Keegan and Gabriel couldn't be more different from each other. Keegan is a sweetheart while Gabriel is the bad boy. Of course, I fell for the bad boy. I'm really looking forward to reading future books in this series, and I'm a little nervous too. The author stated on her website: "I plan for each book to be stand-alone; while certain characters and settings will remain the same, the story/plot will be different, including additions (or subtractions–gasp!) of new characters." I get very attached to characters. I hope future books will include Lucy and give her story a conclusion, because I don't feel like she got one yet. I am excited about meeting new characters and going new places though. This is a book I highly recommend! Gifted enveloped me within its pages so completely, I felt like I was the one who ran away with the circus. Gifted: A Donovan Circus Novel by Liz Long was provided to me by the author for review. The opinions are my own.

One word... WOW! Gifted is an amazing story and I am so very extremely happy that I got the chance to read and review it. There is not a single thing I disliked about this book which makes any other circus related books I read in the future have some huge boots to fill. I was completely hooked to the story from page 1 and honestly didn't even think I was going to fall so in love with this series, but I did. Liz Long is an amazing writer and really has a gift. I will definitely be continuing with this series and will be looking out for more novels by her in the future.

I’ve only read a few circus themed books, and I am really digging the circus theme in general. Inside lies so much potential for an exciting and unique story. Gifted by Liz Long definitely hits the mark. Gifted is the story of Lucy, a firestarter. She is much more talented than her peers, having developed the ability as a toddler rather than a teen. She is able to do things they can’t even dream of doing, and that makes her a target. And now it seems, someone wants her to be the accused. People are dying in horrific ways, and all signs point to Lucy. This story really grabbed me right from the beginning and held on tight the whole way through. It was so interesting to learn about all the differently gifted people working at the Donovan Circus, and how they interacted with each other. Lucy has just rejoined the circus after a death in the family has left her pretty much alone, so she returns to the only home she really knows. Knowing there were going to be murders in this story, every new character I met was put under my microscope. Could they be the suspect? What is their motive? How would/did they do it? That was a lot of fun for me, because once I thought I had it figured out I would read something that would lead me in a different direction. Just like any circus, things aren’t always what they seem. And some secrets go back very far. And I kept hoping that it wouldn’t be Lucy’s love interest, Keegan. Keegan is a firestarter too, and I just really liked him. So the whole way through I was rooting for him to be a good guy. Same with one of the other firestarters, Nikolas. I just really liked the both of them. Honestly, I liked almost all of the characters. Brooklyn was another who made it to the top of my list, I’d love to read more about her. And lets not forget Sheffield, Delia, and Gabriel. All of them were just a real treat to learn about and get to know. This book had a lot of dialogue driven chapters. There is definitely a lot of discussion. You learn a lot about the characters, the circus and its past, and what is going on now with the murders. After all was said and done, I couldn’t decide which gift I wanted more, and I was ready to run away to join the circus myself.
