LOVE this series! The lessons are short, engaging, interesting, and fun! Illustrations and examples are dead on. Several lessons can be done in a sitting...or merely one lesson at a time... or one page in a lesson at a time. You can also follow the book, or skip around as you please. All depends on the child. Typically, each page is a lesson in and of itself, and there are 3 page groups. None of the lessons assume prior knowledge, but convey each topic in a clear, concise, and interesting way. Grade 1 is a slightly harder read than Grade 2 (perhaps they're thinking parents are reading the directions to their children in Grade 1, but the child is reading them in Grade 2?), but the activities are easier in Grade 1. Grades 1 & 2 also parallel each other in content, and the progression between the grades is a gentle one. I would recommend this series to anyone HS'ing, gifted or not, to add to their LA curriculum. Particularly for those looking for grammar & reading/writing practice. Stellar workbook, and does not need a teacher's edition to accompany.

My 1st grader seemed to be grasping the new concepts learned at school fairly easily and I was looking for a tool that I could use at home to build on those concepts and new learning ideas. I looked at many "workbooks" but all of the 1st grade books seemed too easy while the 2nd grade books jumped into concepts that we had not yet explored in 1st grade. This workbook does a nice job of enhancing the concepts already introduced in 1st grade and providing additional exercises in them. It covers, as mentioned in the title, reading, math and writing. It is a little heavy on the writing skill and I would have like to see each concept expanded just a little bit more -- afterall, this is geared to children who are presumably catching on to new ideas fairly easily. Overall, I am happy with how this workbook has fit into our overall at-home skill building activities, as well as my child's 1st grade in-school experience.

For parents who are not teachers this is a great guide. The lesson plan is already setup you just have to go over it with your kid. It's great and my child really seems to enjoy it.

It's very important to ask and answer the questions while reading. This workbook asks the right answers that lead the kids to a complete understanding and thoughtful review on questions to each question.

This lesson workbook is too hard for my forth grader and did not keep her interest at all. Very little math problems that were just word problems. English was just manily reading com. I should have picked out a good story book for my daughter this summer.
